Thanks for the Pics John I have a PetriFlex you have inspired me to dig into, I may need some advice assuming you got yours all back working. Mine does not have any rust but strangely had graphite all over the works, I've got the bottom and top off, think it's really necessary to take the mirror box out ? This on would work then the mirror would hang up and jamb, let it sit ,then play with the release and it would finish the cycle, after working it a bit the slow speeds and self time work but need a CLA. I got into trouble with the 55 f2 lens trying to take the name ring off it appears it does not come out separately marred it up pretty badly before taking the whole barrel front off including name ring in one piece, good news is I have the diaphragm working again and all should be fine just ugly front. I kind of like the main drive shaft ideal: we'll see how it works when cleaned and lubed. P.S. The covering on mine was just as bad even after a treatment with leather conditioner and warming it still was like asphalt or something, not one piece reusable.
Do you know my Friend Chris Sherlock the Retina guy ?
Thanks Again Jay

Jayd - I got no further with the Petriflex. I'm keeping it for parts, in case another comes along I don't know Chris, except on here. If the mirror jams fully up, it can be caused by a sticky rubber buffer, at the front of the mirror box.

Thank John
I have the lens working again but the glass is not so good looks like almost like hundreds of small scratches on all the elements. The body is cleaned of the Graphite that had been sprayed on everything and ready to be striped and final CLA so it's coming along. wish I could post a pic of the lens glass as I'm just not sure if cold cream would help it or it's just as well to leave it alone, at least it focuses and diaphragm works now ! MY PetriFlex project has hit snag in that I have lost the spring on the lock shown in your last picture of the bottom of the camera it's 1 of only 2 in the bottom and the only no captive as the other is captive by the shaft where this one just clips over top of the pawl the only other hold up is memory of where this one part that looks like an Italian horn: it activates the escapement under the mirror box but I just can't picture in my mind how it went, I was sure I took Pictures but there not to be found on my digital: I'll figure that one one out sooner or latter the spring is going to be the tough part!, and the lens fungus is proving tough as well first application of Tinactin did not get it. I find small springs like this the hardest part.

JAY,
If the spring is still somewhere in your premises try this.
Put a single layer of a nylon stocking over the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner. Carefully go over the area where the spring is most likely to be - and unlikely areas as well. That should get it. It also works for tiny screws and parts.
As for your lens' fungus infection.
It may be that your lens has been etched by the fungus. There is not much you can do in this case except try to use it as it is. It might still be quite good. One of the ways fungi reproduce is by mycelia, fine filaments such as you may be seeing on your lens. I suggest chlorine bleach. Some people recommend putting the lens in direct sunlight for several days. I have also heard of using an athlete's foot remedy such as Tinactin which is, I believe, a powder. I wonder if it might not work if you made a paste with water and spread it over the lens. I have also heard of using steam. Also hydrogen peroxide. And Vick's VapoRub.
Whatever you use be aware that a lens is a delicate hunk of glass.
Good luck.

Thanks Mickey I gave the lens a Tinactin cream: Tinactin is available in cream and a spray power, I used the generic cream with same active ingredient and amount of active ingredient after see the results of another user treatment and it improved some of the elements but the front is still pretty bad some I'm giving it a second treatment. If I don't find the spring maybe John will want it as it is in pretty good shape and would likely supply the parts he needs for his Petriflex 7. I have a Retina 50 f1.9 lens that cold cream seems to have made worse so I'm trying the Tinactin on it. Jay

If you shine a bright light through the lens and it looks like the elements and it looks like there are hundreds of small scratches, what you probably have is fungus. Pick the lens up, walk outside and throw it as far as you can. Don't keep it around other camera equipment.

Wayne that is exactly what the front element looks like, if he secound round does not clear it up Iwill dump the Petri lens , the Retina lens is to valuable to dump untill I've exhaused all possible remidies, and I have had sucess with Ponds cold cream in the past just did not work this time, itis slow so perhaps a few more weeks in Ponds if the Tinactin does not work.
Unfortunatley the vacuming did not recover anything but a bit of dust so the Petri Flex V is up for grabs if you want it John: just pay the shipping and it's yours. It was a just a for fun something diffrent project as I don't have that much interest in Petri flex cameras. I did buy a magnetize demagnetize tool that should help with these pieskey springs!

I've got a Leitz xenon lens. It's front element looks as though it has lots of tiny scratches, which in its case is just what they are. The previous owner had used it as a soft focus portrait lens. It is uncoated so the front glass was easily scratched.
