If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna get myself a IIIG. Me too, Wayne. Me too. There are two Leicas in the III series that I lack; the IIIc war-time model and the IIIg. I don't have a IIId either but I seriously doubt that I ever see one much less own it. I consider the IIId to be like the Unicorn..... a myth. (Yes, I know they exist but until I SEE one, they're still a myth to me!) Walker

This might be a sacrilege but I have not any of those wonderful Leica rangefinders. I have to console myself with one Leica R4 SLR and a Summicron lens. The camera and a lens have not actually met themselves yet. The lens is in Georgia US and the body is here. Really nice pictures of your treasures, thanks. But I have a picture of that "body cap" www.lauro.fi/Happy New Year to You all Reijo

Hi Walker, just caught up with your posting where you wrote:
Very few people have got a IIId. It appeared in 1940 and only between 400 and 500 are said to have been made. But I have actually seen - and handled - one, in Germany in the 1970s. As I remember it was near enough the same as a IIIc. The only differences I could see were a big self timer lever on the front by the slow speed dial, and a small ledge on the top plate under the arm of the rewind lever. What was under the ledge I don't know unless it was part of the self timer mechanism.
I was told there were two models, one with black curtains and one with red.
I asked its German owner, a fellow journalist, if he had ever thought of selling it. He laughed and said Yes, for about 10 thousand Euros. I'm still not sure if he was joking!

I've only touched Leica in my life and that was in an antique shop, It was in dreadful shape, the note said it was picked up on the battle field in WWII. The leather was mostly gone and the rewind lever was stuck and they only wanted $100 for it to bad I didn't have the cash, I figured the lens was worth more than that. ;D
