I've been away for awhile -- had some health issues to deal with. I've been re-stented, had my valves ground and my plugs cleaned. Should be good for a few more laps... As soon as I get back into walking shape I'll take along this beauty -- a 'new' collapsible Summicron 50/2 for my Leica M2. My usual 50 is a Hexanon-M 50/2 but I love the compactness and look of this 'period' lens on a matching body. In the meantime I can simply look at it and admire that fatal beauty that vintage cameras have and for which I have no resistance. A moth ever willing to plunge, yet again, into the flame ... Gene

Gorgeous, Gene...... just Gorgeous. As much as I'd love to have a Summicron, I've never gotten the money together for one. My newest normal lens for my Leicas is a Summitar that I find to be quite good. But, it's still not a 'Cron!! Your M2 is a beauty.
I'm also glad that you're getting back into shape. Heart problems are not to taken lightly. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Nice to see you back here but sorry to hear the cause of you absence. I hope you get into walking shape quickly and get to enjoy that new toy. What's the old saying "some moth, some flame" or something like that. Anyway, enjoy.

Gene, I wish you a fast and speedy recovery and knowing that your Summicron will outperform my Summitar and then some, you have an awful lot to look forward to. Here's a Summitar 11c photo of a nearby John Wesley 1840 church a while back, now if I buy a half decent scanner maybe I could show little more of the potential of this family of lenses of which yours is the pinnacle.

Walker, I think any Leica lens is good. I once had a collapsible Summicron and foolishly sold it -- when this one was offered, I jumped.
Bob, thanks. I'm looking forward to resuming my walks again, and just enough time to get back into fit shape for the fall-colour season.
Wahoo, what a beautiful photograph. I've always admired the pics a Summitar is capable of. In terms of pure optics, my Hexanon is a better lens, but I love the look of the Summicron.

Thanks Ron. I'm eager to do more shooting with the Summi -- I have one roll ready to develop.

Gene, I had to look and see what a Summo-cron was...I thought you'd taken up Summo Wrestling at first. ;D Don't laugh too hard, just trying to cheer you up. We'd make a good pair on a hike what with my diabetic neuropathy. I do a little stutter step, groan, and take another step. Boy it sure sucks getting old. I'm glad you are on the mend, nice looking camera and lens, it almost doesn't look right without the Starbucks Cup.

Collapsable Summicrons are cool, congratulations on getting one Gene for the M2. They take great pictures.

Thanks Bill. On the one roll I've taken with it, the Summi looks very good.
