Bob, that is one beautiful camera. I've long admired the Contax, especially those without the meter which I consider sleeker and more handsome. Even so, I've never been able to become comfortable with them as my hands just don't seem to fit right. I own half a dozen or more Kiev clones that are functional but never used. One of these days........ Walker

Very nice Contax, Bob. I'm sure you'll enjoy using it.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Bob:
Beautiful camera. Is it pre war or post war? I've got a 1937 model with an early coated lens and it takes great pictures but like Walker, I have trouble with the "Contax Grip."

Wayne, AFAIK the Contax II was strictly a pre-war (possibly war time as well) model. When Zeiss Ikon began production of cameras after the war in West Germany, the re-designed camera became the Contax IIa. The meter model became the IIIa. Collectors have designated the post-war model in various ways according to the color of the dials etc but I'm not all that familiar with the variations. Walker

Thanks guys I am happy as heck to have it back. Yea, it is pre war and as a bonus I can use that cheap FSU 35 that you can't on a post war model. I know it is sacrilege to some but the FSU glass is good enough and cheap enough. Now if my back quits aching I can get some photos done and bore you with them.

I've used the Jupiter-12 35mm on my Contax and got good results.

There is nothing wrong with FSU glass. I use it on my Kievs, my Contax IIa (post-war) and my Nikon S2 and SP.
But two years for an overhaul!!!!!! You are one patient guy.

Wayne
I have been using my J-12 on my Kiev and it performs well. The Kiev was based on the pre war Contax II but the post war Contax IIa/IIIa are different and the J-12 is not supposed to fit them. I don't have a Contax IIa to see if it is true.

You bet there is nothing wrong with FSU glass but you know how some people are when you mix and match things. I know some people that would disagree on the patient bit.
