Hi Sherri,
Ha! Seen that tree before! Your version is tighter than Bob's - I like yours. Did you crop it, or is that how you saw the shot?
I very much like the last one - it's got everything. I like the vertical take, blue sky & lake, trees in their autumn uniforms, and that ramshackle landing stage. Super!!
Regards - John

Sherri,
Way to go, girl!! Ya know...Bob is going to have to get on the ball...lol...because you are getting to be quite a good photog. Now I bet he will say he is your mentor...huh!?
That first pic is fantastic. I just love the composition of the tree surrounded by reeds and rocks against the lake and sky background.
The varying shadow to lighter areas in the second pic have just the right amount of exposure to show good detail, but the biggest thing to make this pic a success is placing the vacant picnic table in the scene. Being a fall scene, the empty table just makes me think that shortly it will be covered with snow.
The last picture is well proportioned into thirds with that impact of fall color in the middle. It is further enhanced by having included the dark boat slip and off to the side.
A fine job, Sherri!

John , you are right...Sherri's photo is better! And Ron, nope can't claim to be her mentor for photography....maybe for camera collecting? ;D But Sherri has always been a better photographer than I. Long before she ever got her hands on an SLR...i could see her ability...just from P&S cameras...I knew she could "see" a shot much better than me and could compose one way better than I. Told her someday I'll just carry and maintain her equipment...and she can take all the photos.....as long as I can still collect the cameras Bob

Thank you everybody for the comments, they were much appreciated. John, the driftwood photo is exactly how it was seen. I'll confess I have more than a few shots of the tree from different distances and angles. This was fairly close up and I was on my knees to make this one look "right" Funny how a difference of 2 ft in height can change the look of a shot. The picnic table shot was the second shot. The first one had the picture in the lower right hand corner of the frame and I thought maybe that would be the better of the two....but I liked this one even better. And it was exactly that deserted feeling I was trying to get. Those last 2 were my favorite shots out of 3 rolls. And Bob? maybe not a mentor, lol. More a technical advisor. I killed my trusty little P&S on a long hike last year, which meant I had to really start learning how to use the first camera bob gave me. And I can ask some REALLY dumb questions...repeatedly....So thankfully he has patience. Sherri
