Some images just found on a forgotten disk. In 2003 I got a new digital and immediately went out and blazed away around the city I then lived in. These are some of my favourites from that disk. If you like these, more will come out of the archive. Baked Sweet Potato Vendor Serious Benediction A bunch of kids were playing a raucous game of rock paper scissors outside our apartment. They soon started hamming it up for the camera. Street BBQ: fiery & Delicious! Reconstruction

Well they worked OK Michael, although you were struggling for light on the Street BBQ. Where were these taken?

OK, you've asked for it! The city, John, is Nanchang City, Jiangxi Provence, Southern China. AKA, the Hero City, where 'The First Shot of the Revolution' was fired on August 1, 1927 (August 1 is now celebrated as 'Red Army Day'). Aside from the revolutionary history, Nanchang is just your common-garden Chinese city of about 2 million people in the city and 4 million in the municipality. It was my home through 2002 and 2003, and is where I met and married the beautiful woman who made an honest man of me, So these photos all bring back good memories. I find that Chinese cities, with their abundance of street-life, allow me to display my meagre photographic ability in a flattering light. With so many people to photograph, one can't help but make some passable images! Drum Mothers My wife comments on how Chinese seniors 'learn to be old' that is, they take up sociable activities like singing, performing or group exercising in parks and other public spaces. Supermarkets in China don't have car parks, but they do have bike parks out the front, a convenient place for the supermarket to put on crowd-drawing free performances. Often this is awful, distorted Canto-pop accompanied by a frenetic cross between aerobics and old-fashioned go-go dancing. Much more pleasant are the groups of seniors doing their thing. I can't help but think of this lot of matronly timpanists as the Drum Mothers. The unpleasant blue cast to this woman's otherwise beautiful face may have been caused by my little Oly's usually excellent colour compensation. It may have read the early morning light and the women's golden costumes as tungsten and thrown in a blue 'filter' to compensate. The next picture has much warmer colour. Going to Market Even a decade ago, the road would have been filled with people walking in from the villages to the city markets. Now, bicycles, motorcycles, buses, vans and Bang-Bangs (motorized tricycles) have largely replaced foot-power and wheelbarrow.

Great shots, Michael. I'm with everyone else..... keep 'em coming!
Those drummers can be very, very good. I once watched a Korean woman in Seoul play drums arranged in a row on a frame and she could have easily given a good Jazz drummer a run for their money. I love the colorful dress too.

Michael,
These are wonderful pictures. I keep coming back to the one of the man pushing his wheel barrow. I find it very compelling.
I wonder what an art instructor would make of the repeated triangles.
More, please.

Excellent work Michael. I could look at photos like these all day. I really like the sweet potato vendor and second photo of the women drummers. Huge amount of detail in both.

Although I like the vivid colors of the drummers, something really draws me to the man with the wheelbarrow. Nice shots and interesting to look at/hear about. Sherri

The man with the wheelbarrow is a classic photo. Clean composition, unposed look at life, bravo!

I'd like to voice another one for the "Going to Market" shot. All the pictures are excellent (so, please, open that archive and let us see more), but even with it's subdued color palette, there's something timeless and wonderful in that shot!
