Since my last post I reacquired a 24mm f2.8 Nikkor (ai). When we went on our cruise I used it more than any other lens, even though I had a 20mm along, too. I started using the 24mm in the very early '70s and it remains my favorite. Another WA that I loved but sold in a moment of stupidity was a Takumar 17mm screw mount that I also used on my Nikons (this was in the 1980s). It was very sharp, had built-in filters and when stopped down had everything in focus from about four inches to infinity. They fetch pretty decent prices nowadays, but I may break down one of these days and look for another one.

Your mentioning of the 17mm Takumar brought back thoughts of a Tokina 17/3.5 that I had for a while and sold off. It too was a very good lens and I regret selling it. I don't think they are that expensive used and are very good value. It might give you another option to try out in that FL.
