Just received (off eBay) a super clean 55mm f/1.4 Mamiya ES lens (for the Mamiya XTL) that looks brand new...for 99 cents! I was the only bid! ;D I did not need it...nevertheless, I'll be happy for a week!

And the seller actually let it go for less than a dollar!? Wow...you did luck out.

I may be happy for a month! ;D Just got a 28mm ES lens for 99¢ too! Shipping was $8.00...but it's still a bargain! I don't know why they went so cheap, but I am not about to question my good fortune!

I think I'm living wrong -- I never see deals like that! Congrats!
I just picked up a used Super-Takumar 55mm f/2 to use with my new Mamiya 1000 DTL. Not at a super-bargain price, but reasonable. I once owned this lens back in my Pentax days and it's one of the best lenses I've ever shot with. Even better than the much-revered Super Tak 50/1.4. I swear it challenges a Summicron for the combination of sharpness and creamy out-of-focus signature.

Gene,
We must be doing something wrong, or living wrong. Randy and Ron often luck out like this.

We must be doing something wrong, or living wrong. Randy and Ron often luck out like this. Gene and Ron: I can't speak for Randy, but I think luck does play a part, but only a small part. You have no idea how many auctions I bid on...sometimes with absolutely no intent or desire to win the auction! I track Mamiya prices for my web site data, and sometimes I'm right at the 100 "watching" limit eBay sets....so to keep items (particularly lenses) on the radar screen, I bid on them. Usually not much. I might bid a few pennies over a minimum opening, just to keep the auction live in my records until I can record the result. For instance, on that 55mm ES lens, the auction started at 99¢...so I bid a dollar. I didn't need the lens...I have several. But I wanted to track the auction...and my "watch" table is full. As luck would have it...I was the only bid, so I got it at the opening price. If someone actually bids on the item, it is still in my tracking records, regardless. Same is true of the 28mm...although I actually did put a low bid in on that one. But no one else bid so, again, I got it for the opening price (I love it when that happens ;D) . Sometimes when I bid like that, there is a "reserve" and I don't meet it, so no sale. But since I really don't care if I win the item, I don't have to worry about it!
