This was taken on a camera that was advertised as a "panorama" camera. I opened the back and there was a plastic mask thingy which I immediatly removed. Rather surprising. Jules

Hi Lulalake...amazing what $1 will buy. But if you have other cameras, having a "panoramic" camera with masked off plastic thingy can be neat to have too. With a masked off plastic thingy, you qualify for 4"X12" prints(which I have noted elsewhere in Camera Collectors). You can't get 4"X12" prints(only $2 or $3 more) from your developer unless your have the masked off plastic thingy. These are actually 8 power enlargements from the negative with 2" truncated off top & bottom. Take a look at my Washington State pictures, specifically at the panoramic pic (composed with the masked off black thingy on my $1 auto focus, auto exposure, auto lots of things P&S camera with 4.5 power zoom lens). & my in-hand 4"X12" print is much better than the screen's version. I rest my case in favor of the masked off black thingy & the cheap panoramic pix many people like to make fun of. If my one panoramic pic doesn't make you sit up & take notice of masked off black thingies, then I can post more panoramas, brought to you by masked off black thingies. Grace & peace & eye openers to all readers...litesong

Jules, the keystoneing effect gives that church a GOTHIC appearance. I like it!

Jules, the keystoneing effect gives that church a GOTHIC appearance. I like it! Thanks Randy but, It was a total accident. I had my scanner software set for a completely different film with different issues and neglected to change it to the parameters of film I was using, Kodak Gold 200, and this is the way it scanned! I went on to scan other low light shots, as this one was a deep sunset shot, and got similar results, therefore I added the mistake (now a technique) to my repertoire of processing tricks . .uhh techniques. Mistakes are the real mothers of invention. Cheers Jules

L., Thanks so much for your comments. Inside the camera is a notice indicating that the user should specify a panoramic development to the developer. I was wondering about this and you told me exactly what I needed to know! Man thanks!!
The plastic black thingy is easily reinserted and I will definitely mess with it. What I like now is that with the PBT removed, it’s an approx. 24mm WA camera and I'm currently enamored with WA ( I just bought another WA, 60mm, lens for my Mamiya 645AFD) and panos so this is very cool.
Thanks again
Jules

Having trouble here. These plastic thingys are nothing to do with girl thingys are they? !! Regards - John Hmmm I think it's time to tell the tale of . . .THE THINGY! I engaged a fine art photographer to capture images of THE THINGY. I paid him well as he gathered light from the nearest star to dispel shadows from THE THINGY. (A gentleman never cheats himself) And here is THE CAMERA that cradles THE THINGY It came from ancient Canton in the dark hold of a great ship across the cold and mysterious China sea where there be dragons I am told by the sailors, who have been down to the sea in those great vessels. It was fashioned by the sons and daughters of those artisans of old who made jewelry on Jade anvils with silver hammers and those who went blind crafting fine lace with knots so small that they were almost invisible. Here we see THE CAMERA with its flap all akimbo, open to all passers by like a door on a brothel enticing those desirous of dangerous liaisons, and there, right there in the center framed like a cube of dark gold is held . . . THE THINGY!! Avast and Well Met me hearties, it held as closely in THE CAMERA as my ladies’ Lilly white hands in fine Spanish leather gloves, and here . . . here IS the treasure, THE THINGY, cleaved from fossilized blood of the Tyrannosaur or the wings of a thousand Pterodactyls. Here then is THE CAMERA sans THE THINGY. It seems sad without its partner in panoramia but wait, THE THINGY will return again to its’ cradle in the bosom of THE CAMERA. I have no doubt of this. The end (or is it THE BEGINNING?) Jules

Jules....Quite a journey into the mysterious & distant lands that could generate minds to fiendishly conceive the diabolical...the dastardly...THE BLACK PLASTIC THINGY. Your cam has a 24mm lens of good quality. Its got no exposure adjustments does it? Its similar to the Vivitar Ultra Slim & Wide camera with 22mm lens, but the Vivitar doesn't have a BPT. Gives nice shots in the sunshine with ASA 100 film. With ASA 200 or 400 film you can take some pix under cloudier skies. Many P&S cameras have a rotating dial that removes or adds BPT on both the viewfinder & film frame...ABRA CADABRA...instant 4"X12" prints....or not...as THE MASTER commands. Grace & peace to you, Jules.... litesong

Mine doesn't have one making it into a guess and shoot camera. I figured it was a 24mm lens and you are right, the lens is of surprisingly good quality, Ig loses focus around the outside on the field but that adds character and in bright sunlight it's rather good. Here's a shot at midday sun, it's my "love for Sale" shot, he, he. Cheers and Happy St. Valentines day Jules

All this talk about THINGYS! It reminds me of when Peter Wallage first started to post on this board, he had me laughing so hard I was in tears! Seems he was trying to explain about these Airplane Photos he had posted, and he was describing the Cockpit of the plane. Well, the board had censored the word Cock and put in it's place THINGY! So here was Peter trying to tell this fantastic story about this Airplane's Cockpit and it kept coming out THINGYPIT!!! LOL!!! I thought, oh my gawsh, here is this distinguished gentleman trying to tell me this story about his THINGY! Me and Peter had a great laugh about that! LOL ;D

Years ago I was peripherally involved in the development of a radical design for an automobile body. I think the demise of that design was assisted by the name of the firm that designed the body : Monocoque Engineering. I love it! Cheers Jules

Those panoramic point and shoots can be useful. I once bought a cheap used panoramic point and shoot with a 25mm lens on ebay and discovered the mask inside. I wasn't intending on using it anyway. I destroyed the camera, ripped out the finder and put it on a standard shoe, and now I use it with my Cosina-Voigtlaender 25mm / 4 lens.
