Mickey, Bad news I'm afraid - your Argos model has been made obsolete. Canon have taken over the manufacture now and equiped it with not only with a advanced Optical focus free Meniscus lens, but Motor Drive and Red eye reduction. Knowing your love of fine technology, should I bid on this? How does the new lens compare with a Summicron at f11, I wonder? Its the badge that attracts me - at long last Canon have produced an Alpa. Was it not Alpa that had an optical viewfinder on their first SLR? Not often Canon design attracts, but compared to an EOS1, doesn't it look more modern & advanced? cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130078438171&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

For shame, Canon. There is a little matter of patent infringement.......... Mine also has motor drive but Argus was too modest to mention it. Who needs red eye reduction with the flash offset so far from the lens. I do prefer the gold and black though. They must have used an interior decorator.
I have not tried the Alpa. Never even seen one but its name ( copywrited - written - wrotten - wrote? ) is that of a well advertised dog food. Could that be indicative of something? It will probably be a big hit with the kennel crowd. O.K. Alpo Mickey

Hey, the brick was a pretty good performer. It was about all I could afford in high school. I went in some pretty dodgy places taking pictures with an Argus C3 on a wrist strap.
Any mugger would have been in big trouble; the C3 on a sturdy strap has to be the world's most dangerous camera, especially, with those sharp corners.
And sturdy enough that you'd still be able to use it to photograph him as he lay bleeding on the ground.

Barbarian,
I think the Brits call that a cosh.
Your information certainly serves to enhance the reputation of that incredibly versatile C3.

I once saw a bloke coming out of a cafe (Ramsey, Isle of Man) followed seconds later by his girlfriend wielding what looked like a handbag. A few swift blows and he was felled and lay on the ground like a heap of rags. I realise now that she obviously had a brick in her handbag, but I don't think she had the presence of mind to take a photo.
Cosh: yes, like a bludgeon. "Under the cosh" means under pressure: Colray has been under the cosh with his recent ebay (non)purchase.
