Where better to test the glove compartment camera than that place we dread to take our good gear: the beach? I'm surprised at the results. There is some noticeable vignetting and maybe a tad overexposed (possibly the AE ran out of options since I was using 200 film on a very bright day), but many of the shots were nicely exposed, especially considering the meter is on all the time, and can't be AE locked in any way I can see. Literally, Point and Shoot! Um, I have to admit that the roll was more successful than many of my efforts on more valued gear. You might find all the shots of my wife and daughter's retreating backs a bit monotonous, but I thought that the 38mm focal length was ideal for emphasising the wide open solitude of South Island beaches. Location Woodend Beach, North Canterbury. Film Fuji Superia 200 Apart from straightening, the images are un-retouched. crop showing useful sharpness from the f2.8/38mm Rokkor.

The Hi-Matic series are really great cameras. Like you, I find that I get pictures that stand out and often exceed what I get with fancier equipment. Looks to have been a grand day out. The camera did a good job of capturing the expansiveness of the beach (well I guess the camera operator helped too). The cropped picture is one I liked the best.

Great photos nikkortorokkor!! The 4th and 6th shots are outstanding.
You know, I bought the same camera a few weeks ago on ebay for 8 bucks. I just finished the test roll this past weekend and was very happy with the results.
I'll post some soon.
It's a great pocket p&s film camera. And it looks very cool too.
