Nice, Wayne. That's I a song I learned in public school 70 years ago when I too was a soprano. I am afraid the words no longer apply. Mickey

Yeah, Mickey, but that song makes even a Yank like me want to wave a Union Jack.

Seems I am about to embark on a new hobby. While cruising the local Sally Ann looking for old cameras I spotted an old straight razor and a single edge 1924 model Ever-Ready razor up for auction. You guessed it, won the auction. Just waiting for the straight razor to be shipped back from being honed by somebody who knows what they are doing along with a new strop. It will take a while to work up the nerve to try it, never used one before. The surprise was how well the Ever-Ready shaved, closest shave I have ever had, once I made a cross border day trip to buy the right blades. You can't get single edge razor blades made for shaving in Canada for some reason. Just like camera collecting and photography the accessories associated with wet shaving are seemingly endless too. If I suddenly stop posting you will know it did not go too well with the straight razor.

Bob, "You can't get single edge razor blades made for shaving in Canada for some reason. Just like camera collecting and photography the accessories associated with wet shaving are seemingly endless too. If I suddenly stop posting you will know it did not go too well with the straight razor."About 2-1/2 months ago I was frustrated with the razors now available with anything from 2 to 5 blades. They did not give a decent shave regardless of their manufacturer's hype and the number of blades. But their costs have skyrocketed through my bathroom ceiling. My beautiful old Rolls Razor had vanished through the years so I decided to go back to the old double edged King Gillette safety razor that I used when I was a tyro. After 4 attempts and a great loss of blood I gave up on that idea. And because of that experience I shied away from those lethal looking straight razors. I settled unhappily on a Schick 2 blade as being the best I could find. Here, Bob is the address of a Canadian company, Fendrihan, that has everything you could want in bladed razors. It is where I bought my safety razor. It was my fault I butchered myself, not theirs. www.fendrihan.com/May I suggest you invest in a styptic pencil and a tourniquet. Since there is a lot about music in this thread may I recommend playing for your shaving pleasure and to properly set the mood, Danse Macabre by Camille Saint Saens. Best wishes. Mickey

Randy,
Straight or double edged?
It doesn't matter now. I must save what blood I have left for my glucose meter.

Micky
I know what you mean about those multi blade razors, costly and don't shave as close as the 1924 Ever-Ready. The penalty with the Ever-Ready is to be very vigilant. Now that Rolls Razor I would not mind trying, I hear they were real beauties. Thanks for the link, as it happens that was my first stop on the downward spiral to really good wet shaving. I got a couple of decent super badger brushes from them. They beat the heck out of my old Wally World brush for producing lather and comfort in applying it. Already have a styptic pencil and the better half is busy making tourniquets as we speak. Good woman she is. For music I was thinking more along the lines of the Overture from the Barber of Seville.
Randy
Never could grow a full beard so I settled for a Hulk Hogan like type thingy.

All the problems ditto here, especially overpriced refills.
However we have a shop, Wilkinsons, selling cheapish household and garden goods, and they had razors set in a nice plastic handle - half the price of Gillette or Wilkinson (not related to the shop) Sword refills and they last twice as long too. I suspect that one is paying for the name.
As regards Rolls, razors and washing machines, when John Bloom took over the company wilted.

I have just spent some serious time studying The Brothers of the Brush fraternity. Very impressive and emotionally moving, indeed. I can only imagine the tremendous effort and deep concentration each brother must devote to maintain his standing. You must be very proud of them and of yourself. I bow down to all of you. I tried twice and because I could not stand myself I failed abysmally. I kept scratching. Mickey

Beards.....
ZZ Top, are well known for the beards that Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill sport. The third member of the group doesn't have a beard - and his name is....wait for it.....Frank Beard! How weird!

I am currently involved with writing and publishing magazines. A book on poetry and a short novel are in print. I have had some large O scale and G scale layouts and scratch build in 1/2" scale. I have scratch built some model cars and a few kits. There is a link on my camera page to the magazines I have been doing, some are hiden since they were done for clients. And of course taking a lot of pictures of nature and trains which I have some videos on you tube of.
I collect vinyl classical and have a turntable to download them to the computer. Bach, Chopin, and Beethoven are my main interests in this area.
