Update:
My floor project in our hallway turned out nice--actually too nice. My mate likes it so much she thinks we should put another 4 x 14-foot section in the adjoining room!! That's the problem with remodels. You do one thing and then everything around the new work suddenly looks shabby. Sorta like collecting cameras. You get one, then you really need to get the earlier or later variation--then you really need other lenses or the collection won't be complete--then. . . .
Actually, expanding the project isn't such a bad thing. When you get involved in DIY, you get a new skill down pat about the time you finish the project. The second section of floor should go a lot quicker now that I know what I'm doing.

Beautiful stuff. Wish I had the equipment (and the room) to putter with woodworking. In oder to do any serious work with my saw I have to pull the cars out of the garage, do my thing and then clean up so I can bring the vehicles back inside. Tends to curb my enthusiasm.

Cars in a garage? Such a modern world. LOL I converted my garage into a complete shop. If she wants the van in a garage, she can have one built.

I could tell my mate that--and by about the third day I would be able to see well enough to put my pickup back in the garage

Happily my wife wants me to do things like that. It keeps me out of trouble.

Here's a digital shot of the first phase of the afore mentioned flooring project near completion The molding along the floor edges still needs some finish sanding and spot painting and eventually the cupboard at the far end of the hall will be remodeled. our beagle is standing squirrel watch at a patio door. The flooring replaces some 27-year-old carpet. The hall is approximately 4 feet by 30 feet.

Randy, I collect cameras, model airplane engines, trains in N, HO, HOn3, On30 scales, diecast cars in 1/43, 1/24 and 1/18, Winchester .22 rifles, baseball cards, smoking pipes, car and train books, DVD's on airplanes, submarines, cars and others and other assorted things. If I ever get started selling stuff on Ebay I could make a small fortune. Model airplane engines must be a rare hobby. I don't collect them, but I happen to have a 1946 ED Competition Special (don't shoot me if that's not 100% accurate, I know little about it). Is it rare? It's still a runner, though I haven't actually run it for years, just keep it oiled & turn it over now & then!

Hi Wolves,
Those old ED's are great runners. I've got quite a few myself although I try to collect mainly 1.5cc engines.
I have about 500 model airplane engines packed up at the moment.
Check Ebay to see what they are going for.

Check Ebay to see what they are going for. I wasn't thinking of selling it particularly, just curious as to how rare it is (or isn't!). I thought it was 1.5cc, am I wrong? If I post a photo, will that enable you to identify it positively? If you're a collector you'll know far more about it than I do! I know the big-end has a little play but otherwise it's fine, good compression etc. I was really surprised to realise the barrel & ports are soldered together, you'd think with the heat it might fly apart! If it helps, the rear of the mounting flange bears "Made in England" and the side bears "TESTED" (upside down!). The rear of the crankcase bears "N509/7". Cast around the crankcase front it has "ED Mk II" in four sections.

Those Competition Specials were 2.0cc.
There were several versions made.
I don't know if there is much latitude for posting non-camera things here so I'll give you my email address.

Make sure you reference the engine in the email title line as I do not open emails that are suspicious or have no title.
There are several model airplane boards and I have placed many pictures of collectible engines or helped identify some that were fairly rare. Many engine builders did not identify their products and it can be difficult at times.
Now there are reproduction engines and miniature replicas so it can get a little sticky when you think you are buying an original Oliver diesel and find out it was actually made in China two years ago.

Well it's Texas.
I collect S&W revolvers and other target pistols. I shoot a Pardini SP for NRA Bullseye and if I get the chance I shoot a little trap with a Beretta 686 34" Single. I have been involved in model and high power rocketry since I was a kid. my biggest motor flown so far is a J460 and I have a NAR Level Two certification (motors up to L size. I used to be into competitive archery, and I have shown dogs in obedience trials. I am a music teacher in real life and have been teaching orchestra for 25 years, my major instruments are violin and viola. I am struggling with digital photography at the moment and I think I am going to make the switch to a Mac for my "creative computer" I have also been a Ham radio operator (N5WRW) for about 25 years or so.

Wow Dwight, seems like you have enough hobbies to keep four guys busy. Whew, where do you find the time? Ham radio was something that fascinated me in high school, just wish I'd followed up on it. Great way to meet folks in many countries I may never get to. Guess that's sort of what I do these days with the internet, but not quite as immediate or personal as speaking in real time.

Curt,
You're right, but I usually go in spurts and starts. It took me a while to get my license (Advanced Class) as I was never great with the code. I think I was more proud of passing my 13 WPM code test than I was of my college degree! Now all that is needed is 5 WPM and my license class does not even exist anymore. I need to take the Extra Class exam, but it is on the round-to-it pile!
