Laura is the face in the misty light/ Footsteps that you hear down the hall/ The laugh that floats on a summer night/ That you can never quite recall/ And you see Laura on a train that is passing through/ Those eyes, how familiar they seem/ She gave your very first kiss to you/ That was Laura, but she's only a dream/ She gave your very first kiss to you/ That was Laura, but she's only a dream
(sigh) Gotta admit...I really did like Frank Sinatra!

Ron,
Now it would have been a million years before I recognized the lyrics. I was, with interest reading, and thinking that among other things, you were a decent poet/lyrist.

Gene, How did you do it? ? A year ago, I did promo and CD cover shots for a young country singer. For the CD cover I had everything set up in PS2, but I could not get it to print as such. It would either come out "text only" or "graphic only" using my Epson 1280 printer. Ended up having to take my proof to a pro shop to have it done. Ron Head Kalamazoo, MI

Ron, if you don't mind the ramble, I was asked how I did it on another forum and replied with this: Thanks kindly Bill. I'm glad you liked it. Here's a summarized version of what I did with this one: This was my starting image. It was taken in light rain and I had my Canon S3 IS digicam set to iso200 due to fairly dim light. Consequently, the image is somewhat noisy. When I reviewed the photo I liked the face and hair and knew I wanted to give it a high-key treatment. I first put it through Neat Image to reduce the noise, then used Channel Mixer to turn it to greyscale. From there I kept working the image, lightening it as much as I could. Several small iterations of Levels and Curves. I did a lot of dodging around the edges, then some Gaussian Blur around the edges to reduce the bg stuff. Gradually I began painting away the distracing bg details, trying to create a pure white background for the face. When I was nearly done, I used Col Balance to add a touch of col. I then redid Col Bal again to slightly alter the effect. Eyeballing the result until it had the slightly warm hue I wanted. I used Hue/Saturation to reduce the saturation and touched up the edges a little with a white paintbrush where some detail was still marginally visible. It took awhile but I didn't use any fancy features. I'm a mid-level Photoshop user. I suspect an advanced user could find more efficient ways to get this effect. Please don't hesitate to offer suggestions, anyone. If you know a better technique, I'd like to learn more about working an image this way! Gene
