I had the pleasure of meeting Mickey in person last Saturday (Sep 23) at a gathering of GTA (Greater Toronto Area) members of RFF. We had 14-15 photographers show up with every manner of rangefinder -- lots of Leicas, several FSU's, some Bessa's, and quite a few compact, fixed-lens models. Mickey had the best 'collector' pieces. That's me on the left and Mickey on the right. I'm wearing my Fed-2 with Jupiter 8 lens and one of those vented hoods I learned about here. Mickey's wearing a bag full of fine classic RF's, or maybe his new Pentax DSLR (which is a real beauty!) Photo taken by Eduard, a fellow member of RFF. He was using a Kiev 4 with Jupiter 9 lens. Linked with Eduard's permission. Gene

Seems like you GTA RFFers have a good concentration of members down there. Got to love that FSU gear. You can't beat them for the bang for the buck.

This picture explains a lot. You both look argumentative!
Only joking of course, but it brings home a point. In Gene and Mickey's case, maybe 20 years ago they would have belonged to a local photography club. None of the rest of us would ever have seen their work.
On here I'm regularly stunned by the photographs that both of them produce, This is a good place !

John I was thinking the very same thing, just yesterday. I thought how I could have never seen these worksor bought and sold so many cameras before the internet. My how small of a community we live in today. I tell people all the time, I could go anywhere in the world and have an internet friend to visit.

Rick - you're another one, but I don't want to single out individuals. Everyone on here contributes. I honestly have never seen a 'bad' photograph posted on this board. I may have seen some that don't make me say "Wow", but nothing poor apart from that.
WELL DONE RANDY!!

Rick, you're right - it's a small world - but I wouldn't want to vacuum it....

Gosh darn...just as I would expect...2 very distinguished-looking gentlemen!!
I thought Mickey was an old man, but I do not see such in the pic of his face...rather a very youthful minded person.
And, Gene...I really like the beard!!
Tis true what Rick and John eluded to...with the high tech PC's of today we ARE close even though thousands of miles apart in some cases. Sometimes I just have to stop and think just how far removed physically we are. When online, it seems like the person is just "next door".
Kudos to everyone!!

I'm having a terribly busy week with no letup in sight for a day or three, so my apologies for not being able to respond in a timely fashion. Bob, there does seem to be a greater concentration of RFF members in the GTA than anywhere else on the planet. Don't know why this is so but it's a lot of fun to meet up with all of them. John, you're so right. The Internet has made it possible for people with special interests, like ours, to meet, converse, see each other's collections, swap stories and probably tell a few tales that get taller with each telling I've been so glad to meet all of you. Rick, we keep bumping into each other on all the forums. Isn't it great? I spend too much time on my computer, mainly because it's so much fun, not to mention educational. Ron, well... Mickey is certainly a gentleman. Me, I'm just an old guy with a camera... hmmmm, wonder why you like the beard? <big grin> Gene

You Guys look great to me! Nice to see both of you and how nice that you two could meet face to face! I sure wish I could meet all of you because so far this board and the people that meet here are one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I'm so proud of the benevolence and good will that exists here. It just flabbergasts me that my idea to start this board last year worked so well! Our Cameras and our devotion to the Photo Hobby has crossed all borders and generations. Thank you for being Members of The Camera Collector! ;D

Yessiree, two fine handsome devils, LOL. Look like you're both enjoying yourselves and that's what it's all about in the long run. Amazing how the net's brought everyone together. I agree with John and Rick, for years I've bought from older folk selling their cameras and some have both great work and stories but nobody ever got a chance to see it or hear them before. Now on the net, a couple of clicks and we're all one big camera kooky bunch. Thanks Randy for letting a misfit like myself join a group of great people, guys and gals alike, and feel at home. P.S. John, if you want to see a "bad" photograph, I usually get about 20 or so per roll and I'd love to share, Ha Ha.

I am often humbled by the quality of the work displayed here, always glad for the support and knowledge of the group, and wish it were possible to meet occasionally as Gene and Mickey were able to do. ----- and Curt, I'd like to brag and say I never have more than 10 bad images per roll...but someone would be sure to discover that I've been shooting 12-shot rolls lately, and blow my cover!

Curt - 16 keepers per roll? I'm so far out of my depth here, the fish have lights on their noses!
I work on the basis of three, and six is excellent for me.

It was indeed a great pleasure to meet Gene and all the other RF afficionados, all of them enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Gene is the first person with whom I have corresponded on the internet whom I have met alive and in person. A truly historic event for me. Something else important happened and it is Gene's fault. I have been the unofficial family photographer for over 50 years and have rarely seen a picture of myself. What a shock! Today I joined Weight Watchers. Thank you Gene.

Hi John, I mainly shoot 24 exposure rolls, get 20 lousy shots, 1 or 2 I'm content with and 1 or 2 I'd be glad to share. I only wish I got 16 decent shots per roll. Hi Mickey, I wouldn't worry about a couple extra pounds, as John said. As reigning "Fattest Guy in the Forum", I can honestly say you don't have much to lose anyway, LOL.
