Yashica's SLRs seem to take a backseat to their TLRs and RFs. Don't really know why. They seem to be a well made camera and they had a U.S. importer that spent money on full page ads. I think Pentax and Mamiya Sekor got most of the screw mount market. The Yashica's were "me too" feature wise, though they were agressive in integrating electronics into their cameras. They did scoop the screw mount market with a 55mm f-1.2 lens made by their lens supplier and subsidiary Tomioka.
It's another one of those marques I wasn't going to bother with but a friend gave me a TL Super. It's beat up but still works. Has mirror lock-up, too. Unusual feature for what I considered a "second tier" camera.

I like old Yashicas. The camera I use mostly at the moment is a Mat 124G.I have has a fair few Contaxes over the years which were much the same thing but old Yashicas look more interesting and I am on the lookout for some early SLRs or rangefinder ones at the moment.A nice Electro X would suit me nicely!

Hi Barrington,
I've a couple of TLRs (a D and a 635) that I should use a lot more. I've a whole bagful of Yashica rangefinders. The first camera I ever bought was a '35J'. The most unusual is an 'M' - doesn't appear in any of the Yashica history books, but someone on here told me it was the predecessor of the 'Minister' - (got three of those!). I was introduced to the M42s on here, and I like the TL Electro X very much - weighs a ton! I haven't got any Yashica SLRs since those, but I did discover the AF range myself.
I have a 200, 3 x 230s, a 270 and the 300. If you are thinking of branching into that field - the 230 isn't as sleek looking as the 270 or 300, but has far more features.
Regards - John
