Curt, thanks for the update. I've never seen either of those Mamiya models.
Some folks really like having the shutter-speed selector on the lens mount. I adjusted to it during the years I owned OM-1's and I certainly have no big problem with it on the Nikkormat, but I prefer them on top myself. That seems the natural way my hand wants to go to change settings.

My old Contaflex had the SS on the lens mount. Of course, it had a 'tween the lens leaf shutter, so mechanically it was more like a rangefinder. Roy

Gene,
There were quite a few 35mm SLR's with shutter speed rings around the lens. Most of them had leaf type, between the lens shutters and fixed lenses. Some had interchangeable front elements which provided only a very limited range of focal lengths. Some of them were: Paxette Reflex IB, Kodak Retina Reflexes, Contaflex Super B, Kowa - H, etc., etc.
Some did have focal plane shutters and interchangeable lenses but again, the range of focal lengths seemed rather limited. I have a non operating, $10.00, flea market Topcon IC-1 Auto that is just such a camera on which I am to timid tooperate.
As for non 35mm's.... Dozens. There are many, almost all, large formats like 3-1/4 x 4-1/4" and 4 x 5"and 5 x 7", that seem to have the same basic design: Folmer and Schwing Auto Graphic, Ross Reflexes, Popular Pressmans, numerous Graflex's and many others. Most of these had cumbersome focal plane shutters but virtually any acceptable shutter lens combination could be mounted on their lens boards and the FP shutter set on Time to remain open. Some of those focal plane shutters such as the one on the above mentioned Auto Graphic ingeniously acted as apertures as well as shutters.
Apologies. I seem to be drifting way off topic.

Drift away, Mickey! I enjoy learning things like this. Half or more of the cameras you mention I've never even seen!

Gene,
Neither have I but between McKeown's and Butkus there is little that one can't find. I think it used to be called browsing. I can usually find anything in McKeown's ( or some other catalogue ) and can frequently confirm the specifications with Butkus.
As I said, I have the Topcon IC-1 and I also have the Folmer and Schwing.
