I am getting that itch again and Minolta is one Japanese SLR line I have always been curious about. I have friends with SRT's and are very happy with the durability. My brother, evil person he owned an XE-7, sold it and over a year later found another one at a garage sale with a Rokker 50 1.8 lens for $25 CDN. The only thing needing work was the seals.
I have done some research that Leica basd the R-3 on the XE-7 and the R4/5/6 on the XD-11. What are these cameras like, any issues I should be aware of and what are the going prices out their in used camera land? Depending on cost I might just go with an SRT of some sort.

Bill,
I am not overly informed on the XD11 so will let comments on that one to others. However, I do have an XE7 and it is a great operating and quality camera! You are correct about the buddying of Minolta and Leica on that one(XE7 and R3).
I had mine checked out by Terry's Camera Repair in California and it needed only some minor adjustments. Terry used to be a production/assembler worker in a Minolta factory. He has stated that the XE7 could well be one of Minolta's best cameras ever.

Hi Bill Nice cameras - new lens series!! Regards - John Yes I am breaking my own rule of restricting the number of lens mounts with my cameras. I know I am doomed, my only consolation is Alex (my brother), ;Dhas it worse than I do.

I have an XE-7 and an XD-5 (like an XD-11) and both are great cameras and both use the SR44/LR44 batteries. The SRTs are excellent cameras also, I have 20 of them, but they use the 1.3 volt mercury battery that is not available.

Randy: Have you seen the Classic-Camera site, and their adapter for cameras that use mercury batteries? Or the PhotoBattery site, with their zinc-air replacements? It seems a shame not to be able to use a significant portion of your neat collection!

Well, I am doomed.
I won an Ebay auction for a black XE-7 and a 50 f1.4 Rokker MD lens. Randy 20 SRTs? I thought I was bad with four M-42 Pentaxs. Ok, I am only mildly infected:). The one bonus is MD mount Rokker glass is dirt cheap out there.
Welcome another member to the Minolta tribe.

To use my old cameras that took mercury batteries, I have gone a couple of ways.
I have had a couple adjusted for the voltage of the 1.5 v batteries, and I also have a couple of the adaptors made by CRIS. A lot of shooters do not want to spend the money for a recalibration but I had it done for only $25; and they swear that the adaptors are no good.
I have had good luck both ways. I do not like the zinc airs as they quickly zap out.

No brag, just fact. Right now I have 80+ cameras...I think I'm a Camera Collector!

Ron Kamera
Don't you also handle in in this manner: no battery (for mechanical cameras) and a hand held incident meter? ;D

Well, the XE-7 is now in the supply chain and on its way from the Pacific North West to Toronto. Now anyone from Canada have any issues with Fed EX ground? Will I get screwed like UPS?

Bob I,
Little slow to respond to your question. But, YES, I quite frequently use a hand-held meter rather than even put a battery into an all manual, not battery necessarily needed camera.
I like to 'play' with the meter and add some fun to the game. Have an Argus L3(?) that I use with their cameras and a Pilot I use with my other bodies.

Well, Fed Ex says my Minolta is in country at a distribution centre roughly 20 km away. Maybe I get it today or tomorrow. I can't wait on this one.
