Who knows Carena? I collect house-brand Cameras- and everything else from Photo PORST, at one time the worlds biggest camera retailer, located in Nuremberg Germany. House brand models were very important for their strategy, and these models came from many different suppliers (in the later years mostly from Cosina. All these house-brand models were called HAPO (Hanns Porst) or later simply PORST. Around 1986 the PORST models suddenly disappear and are replaced by carena cameras. Some authors (like Günther Kadlubek, the “German McKeown” say that carena was also a PORST house brand – but I am not sure Who knows more? Please advise Thanks Josef www.kamera-geschichte.dewww.kamera-geschichte.de/files/carena_slr_1000_d.htmwww.kamera-geschichte.de/files/carena_slr_srh760_d.htmwww.kamera-geschichte.de/files/carena_slr_1000sx_d.htmAdministrator Note: Josef, the BOLD Code doesn't work in UBB code on this board. I took the liberty of removing it. Randy

Hi,
I seem to remember there used to be a company in Switzerland in the 1950s or 1960s named Carena S.A. but so far as I know they made only 8mm cine cameras.

Joesef
Most likely all 3 are made by Cosina. The 2nd and 3rd are surely Cosina products and Randy indicates that the first one is also. I have a Carena in my collection that is made by Cosina. Can you provide me with the model #s of all 3 Carena cameras shown....
thanks Bob

Josef
the Carena I own is a CX-300.
the reason I asked about those model #s is because I compile a list of Cosina made SLRs....so I don't want a list all of all your Carenas or Porst cameras....just the ones we believe were manufactured by Cosina.---and the 3 you posted photos of are.
thanks Bob

Bob, I just remembered Carena was the camera that was mentioned on that Australian website when we were doing Cosina research.

Carena was a 8mm camera producer in Vaduz in Lichtenstein. The quality level was similar to Bolex and Beaulieu. Angenieux lenses was most used and I believe Kern and Scheider also. The most known model had spring for motor mounted connected to the round camera grip. This model was in Europe much known as ADOX brand. Around 1970 it was established a firm World Photo Marketing with Vaduz post adress - or at least a postbox in the post office because the firm was unknown in Vaduz but more to find in West Berlin. They did offer Exakta Twin and Carena identital cameras made by Cosina with Exacar and Cosina named lenses (Carenar?) Camera had a new bajonet fit and old EXAKTA FIT and M42 adaptor. Both cameras where also offered with original Schneider lenses. Broshures where typical printed in East Germany. As I know the owners behind World Photo Marketing had some ownership to the Exakta name. It had been procuced Kilfitt Zoomar lenses in Vaduz and that might have been the idea with Vaduz adress and also to save taxes.

Wow norfoot. Thats interesting. Thanks.
When I was in retail there were Carenas knocking about but they were cheap and unlike the Prakticas that everyone knew in the same price range, they just didn't sell. I guess people trusted 'brand names'. When we started to sell Cosina branded SLR's in Pentax K mount (the first other K mount camera) they sold like hot cakes due to low pricing and 8-page ads and good reviews in Amateur Photographer. Then they all started coming back, faulty. They were the crappiest camera I ever sold.
