Howdy all, I just won a Minolta X-7A off the bay (hey that rhymes) camera body only for 21.50 including S/H. I wanted to know if I got a Deal or No Deal. I know it's very similar to the X370, if not darn near the same camera minus a couple bells and whistles. I hope it was a good deal as it was going to be my last camera purchase for quite a long while.
Have a good one, Edward

Hi Edward, Sounds like a good deal to me as long as it works properly. My last three eBay deals turned out to be duds so hope yours goes better. I have an X-7A myself and like it a lot. Other than my SRT 101's it's my favourite grab 'n go Minolta. Now, which lens are you going to put on it?

In a side by side comparison of my X-370 and my X-7a the only difference I can see is color. You got a good deal if the shutter works and the capacitors are okay.

JpC, I'm going to put the 1.7 50mm MC Rokkor lens I have on it as it's to only other Minolta glass I have besides the 1.4 58mm lens I have on my SR-T 101.
Randy, I hope everything on it works, because it was stated in the auction that they didn't have the required batteries so they weren't able to test it. If it is a dud then I'm finished with ebay for cameras, as this will be the fourth camera that I got burned on. Lenses are another matter though. ;D

RE ebay duds-having been caught a couple of times on evil bay I now apply a couple of self imposed rules (oh alright ,three) 1.Never buy unless they state it is in fully working order.(Unless you know you can fix it!) 2.Only buy if a case is included-I always think (hope!) if the case is still with it it points to a carefull owner- ditto for instructions, lens caps filters et al. 3.Always check their returns policy- think carefully if there aint one. Of course none of this will guarantee a pristine purchase ,but I like to think it evens the odds a little. Also its quite possible that there will be another (better?) one turn up tomorrow It's happened to me....... regards Chrisy

I received the camera today. Except for some brassing on the black parts, and a little general wear elsewhere on it from use it's a keeper. ;D ;D ;D

I ran a test roll through it, and now I have to wait till the first to get them developed.

Edward,
Don't feel bad about using that 1.7 instead of a 1.4.
Back in the '70's my sister wanted a camera that would take pictures like my XE-7. She bought a new 201.
Her 201 had a 1.7 while my XE-7 had a 1.4. I took her out on a photograhpy trip and we took pretty much the same pictures with our cameras.
When we had the pictures developed I was amazed at how bright and vivid her pictures were when compared to my 1.4 shots. I eventually picked up several 1.7 lenses and they are great. Color rendition is excellent and facial tones look natural, not pink as some others will do.
Minolta also excells at wide angle lenses. Edge to edge sharpness is superb.

I got the photos back today. 19 out of 27 (24 shot roll) on one roll come out ok, and 10 out of 14 (12 shot roll) on another were ok. The problem is a black area on the right side of the print (I know it's the left side when the photo was taken). I had at first thought it was a light leak, but those cause light areas (right?). It's weird that it only happened on some of the photo's and not all on others.

Edward: Doesn't sound like a light leak...sounds more like a shutter hanging up for part of its travel. I took out my X-7A to check, and can't get the shutter to cock! Worked fine when I put it away last (about six months ago). Does anyone recall if it needs batteries and/or film to cock, or do I have another child to band-aid?

I guess I'll run another roll through it at the various shutter speeds, and see what happens. The funny thing is, this happened when the camera was set to Auto. herron, mine cocks without film and batteries. Sorry.

Ron, it may be already cocked, put a couple LR44s in it and push go.

Ron, it may be already cocked, put a couple LR44s in it and push go. Darn! Can't figure it out. It's not like me to put a camera away with the shutter cocked, but I was really hoping the Mamiya Man was going to be rescued by the Minolta Man.....no such luck. Looks like some minor surgery will have to be scheduled.
