I have been contacted by a producer from Weekend America, a show about America’s weekend that is produced and distributed by American Public Media on NPR. They want to use a photo I shot of Richard Nixon to illustrate the web version of the next installment of a series entitled On “This Weekend in 1968”. Unfortunately no money is involved. But I do get a credit. Here's a link to their site: weekendamerica.publicradio.org/Here a link to the photo: photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5956268Actually I've got another pix of Nixon that I think would be a better illustration and I'm trying to talk them into using it. photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7265454

I liked the other photo because he's smiling ans the animation of the crowd in the foreground. The story is about how Nixon felt he appealed to the "Silent Center" and Idaho in 1968 (or today for that matter) was about as Middle America as it gets.
There also are going to be doing something on Robert F. Kennedy in 1968 and I have shots of him campaigning in Oregon, the week (maybe two) before the fateful California Primary and his assassination.

Congratulations Wayne. There must have been hundreds of pictures of Nixon published on that and other tours.
Nice to have yours selected and some recognition and a credit instead of having pictures pirated.
Shame about no fee, but never mind. The exposure might yet bring in profitable enquiries.
If people ask my permission to use any of my pictures I usually give it without a fee for use in a restricted circulation club magazine or on a club's website, and send them an emailed copy.
If it's for advertising use, or by a well-known publisher who is using the picture commercially, then I always charge a fee.
With low-circulation shoe-string publications like one-man-band hobby magazines and the like, I usually email them a copy and ask for a free advert in the issue in lieu of a fee. Most are only too pleased to do this, and over the years it's brought in quite a few enquiries and orders for reprint books and hi-res "photo quality" copies of pictures.
I've had quite a few pictures pirated, but usually they were lousy copies because they'd been taken from low-res screen shots or from screened printed pictures and the pirates weren't skilled enough in PS to get rid of the screening completely. They've often finished up either with very poor definition or with a moire pattern across the picture. I've even had people try, not very successfully, to take out a visible copyright notice.

That's neat Wayne, I know it's only a credit, but you know it's your credit. My moment of fame: Once when I was at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum they were having time trials on the racetrack. I snuck away from the crowd to get a closer look. Mario Andretti told me..."HEY YOU! GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!" and that's my moment of fame Mario Andretti told me to get lost..lol

Wayne, sorry for my late comment but I'm on the 'Net intermittently right now.
This is great! What a fun thing to have them use your photo. Take a bow!

amazing Wayne, i hadn't seen a picture of him before smiling and the other dipicts him just as i have seen him on telly the few times such things appear. and you got so close too! i thought it was not easy to get close to american presidents.
i was close to an australian PM once when i was a kid of 15 years of age (Malcom Frasier). didn't have my camera at the time. i was just walking down a street and saw a big gathering, he was opening a hall or some such thing and there were protestors everywhere, throwing eggs and tomatoes at him while he was speaking! i watched with curiosity and noticed the police had there ID serial numbers covered up, the press taking pictures, but most of all i was intrigued by what i presume was a couple of fellows from ASISO (our version of secret intel service) across the street almost concelled on a balcony taking pictures of everyone in the crowd. i would have liked to have have taken a picture of them hehe

Andrew:
I was an accredited newspaper photographer at the time. But that didn't make much difference to the Secret Service. Nixon was speaking on the steps of the state capitol. It occurred to be that if I went inside the capitol from another entrance I could come out the front doors and be BEHIND Nixon--with the sea of crowd faces below. I was inside the building approaching the front doors, when the first Secret Service guy grabbed me. He was quickly joined by two more who went through my gear while the first held me down. I was informed that only members of the national press traveling with the candidate could approach from behind. Those guys had absolutely no sense of humor. You notice in the nonsmiling photo there is a national press corps photographer shooting a Nikon F with the standard meterless finder.
