They are Hebrew letters but the language is mostly Yiddish except the third word in the top line (reading from right to left) which is the English "cream" . The bottom line is "Fresh every day". The first word on that line (on the right) is the English "Fresh". I don't know what the other words are but am trying to find out.
Kensington Market has a fascinating history. It was occupied by successive waves of immigrants. Its appearance with sidewalk food and dry goods and other merchandise stands has not changed much in over 100 years. Many of today's shop keepers are from the Caribbean and China but there are still some of the original Jewish and then Italian and then Portuguese and many others living together harmoniously. The shop keepers usually lived and many still live behind and above the store fronts. It is a great place to wander about and take pictures. It is part of the heritage of many Torontonians.
