For you U.S. and maybe Canadians:
Got an email from Tigerdirect.com --sells computer stuff on line. I have bought from the previously. They have a 72 hour special but it will probably sell out before then
Acer 22 in. LCD wide aspect display (it gets good reviews) Contrast ratio: 2500:1 (that's good for photo work.) $159 with free shipping
That's dirt cheap for a display that large.

A number of people have switched to Acer from the brand names, including my photo store sales rep. They say they have improved quality the past 4 years and the prices are great.
Yes, Wayne...that is a fairly large monitor and very good price!

Acer are good - my new laptop is Acer. The spec was higher than anything else at the price, and the battery life is much longer than anything but the 'equivalent' Toshiba - which was £200 more. The screen display is better than my Hansol CRT as well. My local computer repair man reckons there is very little to choose between the reliability of most of the well-known brands. He wouldn't be drawn on which was the best, but he did say that he sees more Dells than any other brand!
Regards - John

I suppose one day I'll have to get an LCD flat screen but at the moment I'm carrying on with my old 22 inch Sony Trinitron CRT monitor. I like it because it's clear and sharp and there's no barrel or pincushion distortion from edge to edge
It's big and it's heavy but I use a big office desk not a small dedicated computer desk so I've got plenty of room for the monitor, a colour laser printer and a flatbed scanner on it. The computer lives under the desk.
IMHO Sony Trinitrons were the best CRT monitors ever made. What makes this one even more attractive is that I was given it when the previous owner 'upgraded' to a 19 inch LCD monitor because he was given a compact computer 'work station' desk as a birthday present and the Sony was too big and too heavy to sit on it. There wasn't room for a keyboard, not even for a notepad, they had to sit on a flimsy pull-out tray and the weight of the CRT made the desk wobble.
The marvels of miniaturisation. Smaller is better now it seems.

I had a 19-inch Acer LCD before I got my laptop. I gave it to my sister who was still using CRT and yiu would have to kill her to get the Acer away from her now. She love is.
If you work at a computer all day the LCD screen is much easier on the eyes.

I've been using an Acer AL1714 17" LCD monitor since 2005. It started displaying a "ghost" or burned in image withing a year. Glad to hear their quality has improved.

ah how i would love a new monitor..and computer for that matter! i was nearly going to get myself one a little while back but my son wanted a new computer so mine will have to wait for another time..
i have a old 17" flascreen Samsung purchased when flatscreens were fairly new on the scene, its still working perfectly but a new bigger one would be nice. i suggested that my son could have my screen and i could have a new one but for some reason that didnt appeal to him!
so for one of my boys i bought a 19'' Acer (it was very cheap and he is not fussy) and for my other son that got the new ultra overkill computer setup LOL, i got a 22'' LG it was only $20AU more than the Acer 22'' ( total for LG $210 AU which with exchange rates atm makes it about $135US) and side by side the LG had a nicer picture, better warrantee 1:8000 contrast ect
he is pretty happy with it so thats the main thing, weird thing is now i have a perfecttly good 19'' crt monitor (my son preffered to have the larger space saving flatscreen) thats hanging around taking up space, ah well.
those sony trinitrons were good monitors!...good TV's too, i used to have one of them
