Talking of eggs and Wimpey's. Wimpey's is a relatively new chain here.
Their breakfast special at $3.99 offers two of the world's smallest eggs (probably taken from pigeon nests), a few strips of the thinest, translucent and almost transparent slices of bacon and toast that is sliced so thinly that it crumbles to the touch if toasted.
All this to be enjoyed in the the greatly compressed space between immovable seating and a fixed table imaginable.
Popeye's Wimpey would blush if he knew how his name was being abused and misused.

Peter,
I am very fond of your waffles. They don''t even need maple syrup.

I'd have to agree with John and Mickey's assessment of Wimpey's food. My first encounter with a Wimpey burger was in the late 60s on a run ashore with some wingers(shipmates) and even drunk it was abysmal. Someone else commented the next morning that it would gag a maggot. Hungry Jacks did remind me of Burger King and being a tourist I had to try the Aussie burger. I have to admit that it was miles ahead of a Wimpey burger, beet root slice and all. Sadly very few burgers from chain outlets can come close to homemade these days. There is something in the KFC recipe that seems to be addicting. I can fall face first in to a bucket of all white meat KFC chicken.

Bob:
Agreed on the Original Recipe KFC. I absolutely love it. Problem is KFC give potential employees some sort of motivation test and if they pass it, they aren't hired. I've had my order messed up at KFC more than any other eatery.
I actually had my first KFC before there was a KFC. Originally Colonel Saunders sold licenses to existing restaurants. There was one here in the early to mid 1950s. It was a sit down restaurant--The Mission Inn--that had a lot of other dishes besides chicken.
BTW, our first stop in Beijing was to get coffee at a KFC right across the street from Teniman Square.

Wayne.
I am with you. Colonel Saunders' original recipe is still the best chicken ever.
Driving home with a big bag of his chicken and chips and cole slaw for the family was a test of will power. The magical aroma was an almost impossible to resist siren call to a hungry dad.
Many of us still call KFC Colonel Saunders.

I grew up in various areas of the American West and have seen vast acreages gobbled by corporate landscape. Moving back here to Arizona (in 2003) after 13 years in Oregon was truly shocking ... I am not capable of adequately expressing how it felt to see my precious Sonoran desert plowed under, only to be coated with golf courses. The only answer I've come up with is that I've learned to "get used to it" i.e., have become numb.
