Here's a shot of my new "darkroom." I know it's waaay to clean and organized but I'm sure that will change over time. The best think is the screen that is big enough to really get a good look at my photos. The computer is running 64 bit Vista and even though my Photoshop Elements and Nikon processing software are only 32 bit, they run much faster now. AND my mate likes it because the cabinet--which we already had, can be closed up so everything is hdden. Wayne

Very nice, and very neat, Wayne. And I really mean that. But I'm afraid it wouldn't suit me. All my gear is far too big and bulky to fit in a cabinet like that. My monitor is a big 20 inch Sony Trinitron CRT, my black and white duplexing laser printer, my colour laser printer and my heat-seal binder are all big 'commercial' machines bought secondhand when some local companies went bust. Even the scanner's bigger than many very modern ones, not to mention my A3 guillotine. Oh, and the phone and some room to make notes. Together they take up one complete wall of my den, plus a little bit of another wall. Then there are shelves for all, well almost all, of my books and magazines, and boxes of printing paper. If it were all tidied up I'd never find anything. I like to have things easily to hand so I don't have to move about too much and I know where things are. Anyway, it's MY den in MY house, and if I want to keep it in a state of organised chaos and shut the door I will. So there! PeterW

Beautiful. Elegant. A far cry from what I imagined a darkroom could ever be. No cement floor. No bottles or trays or tanks or smelly chemicals. No safelights or enlargers or easels or dryers or tongs or colour meters or thermometers. No waste basket full of wasted printing paper and frustration.
I think it should no longer be called a darkroom. An enlightened room would be more suitable.
