Hi ! I took this picture ( Nikon D-90, Voigtländer Wide Angle Lens ) about two months ago from the balcony of my apartment, just a minute before a heavy thunderstorm hits the city. And this was a real tremendous one, maybe a hurrican. The result was: cutted trees and demaged cars ( mine blessedly parking in the garage ) and a lot of water everyehere. Very uncommon for the central europe region, but a sight to behold ( from the inside ). lg MIK

You got that just in time and a very dramatic photo too. Did it move in very fast and what CV lens were you using, the 20mm?

Hi Bob !
This storm was moving in very fast, the ambiance was completely dark within a minute followed by a hailstorm ( hope this is the right word for it ). The church 1 km away was still in bright sunlight. The whole incidence lasted for only 15 minutes. I used the Voigtländer Ultragon 19-35mm with approximate 20mm.

Very dramatic shot! I like it! Ordinarily, I might want to see just a bit more detail in the foreground (hard to get with that sliver of bright light) but, in this case, it works really well. Thanks for sharing it!

Pretty amazing how some storms move in so quickly and disappear almost as fast. I had to google the lens as I was not familiar with it. I have a feeling it is not commonly available this side of the ocean. Is the D90 your first DSLR and how do you like it?

Hi Bob,
The D90 is indeed my first digital SLR and i like it very much, especially the proportion of price and performance that the camera offers. A good camera, the controls adjusted as usual and easy to handle. My son bougt a D80 last year, and at the beginning of this year the D90 was available at the same price, so i myself bought one, although i do not really need the movie function. Before, i used among others, a Nikon F70 ( a true buddy through many years ) and for digital photography a Nikon Coolpix 5000. The undersized Coolpix was so tricky and the settings too complicated to handle, that i have been always to late for "the right shot". So sometimes i throw that crap out of the window ( thats true ). The Voigtländer-Lens is 15 years old and was about 400 USD, i don`t know if it was sold overseas.

Hi Helen ! I made this picture about a year ago and some of this heavy thunderstorms followed, even a small tornado, the first ever recorded, which cuts a lot of trees a view month ago. Have many thanks for your kind comment Here is another view, taken with a 200m tele-lens: Welcome to the forum ! MIK
