Please do not join the Camera Collector just to sell things or list things in the Classifieds. If you do, your membership will be removed.

We have had some people join just to hawk their stuff lately, and it's against our policy.

To Hawk: to offer (goods) for sale, as in the street without forethought. A common street merchant. Here in the United States we have people that sell cheap jewelry or inferior items from a street corner or out of the trunk of their car.
Do you think it's fair to the members that we come here every day and build this forum up and then to have a total stranger join only to sell their wares and then leave? That's what Ebay is for. It's happened much too often here, and the staff of this forum has agreed to nip it in the bud.

I agree, Randy. I just sent this reply to a new member on my own forum, who has only posted three times ... all ads.
---------- Hopefully, you have joined to be a part of the community, and are not just using this forum as a place to hawk equipment.
Selling your Mamiya stuff is OK here, but not if that's all you registered to do. Says so right in the Posting Agreement at the bottom of the page.
You should be aware that such entries may be deleted. ----------
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but will probably deep-six him and ban his IP address if he posts another ad.

hawkers are often referred to here by people in a business establishment with a sign on the door that says 'No Hawkers'. usually asking that the people that are peddling something or other not enter to do so...i have a small printed sign near front door bell that says No Hawkers, Religions or Charities Please (no more room to write anything else LOL). 99% of the time it is enough to persuade the energy companies or some mobile phone company to about face, Jehovah Witnesses or other religions from interrupting morning brunch (if you talk to them it only encourages them! ) or other weekend activities with the kids or the endless charities that door knock at dinner time (i have my favourite charities that i donate to and thats all i am able or willing to commit to.... )

It's such a small world when you realize that Hawk means more than a fair feathered friend in more than one land, eh?

Just to lighten up - or down.
Hawk also means to spit or expectorate.

Any members that wish to join a forum or group just to sell vintage SLR's can feel free to join my vintage SLR's yahoo group. Link is here: groups.yahoo.com/group/vintageslrs/The members of that group like having the first shot of at camera gear. Randy--I respect the CCB policy against this practice and do not wish to differ with it.....but if you do not mind---when you ban someone for that please give them the above link and tell them to sell their goods there. They will be approved for membership and can offer their goods for sale for free. Mr. Herron I extend the same request to you also----feel free to direct your banned sellers to my group. thanks much Bob

Thanks, Mickey.
I thought an expectorate was the opposite of an inspectorate.

Most of the people that join to hawk their stuff are usually selling non camera items. I remove that nasty stuff before most people see it. I guess I'm gonna have to start checking ISPs again.
