Oh Bob, lol lol, i've never heard of a rat terrier - and webbed feet, for real? I must see more of that gorgeous dog! Wherever you are, do you have Jack Russell Terriers or is that an Australian name for a different breed?
Wayne, I love your purebread mutt! We had one just like him. Her name was Minnie and we inherited her from a Caravan Park where she used to go from site to site pinching the milk money. Cleverest dog I ever knew! Could climb ladders and everything.
Cheers, Pen.

Pen
We know JRTs in Canada it is just that Rat Terriers are an American breed, the RCA Victor dog, and very similar in appearance to a long legged JRT. We wound up with a Rat Terrier third hand from somebody and liked the breed so much that when he died of cancer my wife found another at a pound in the USA. At least that is what the pound though he was but I suspect that a Lab got into the mix too going by the webbed feet. Whatever he is we wound up with a good family member.

That's really interesting! They are such treasures aren't they? When we got ours 10 years ago, my husband wanted a brown & white male. When we went to pick him up, this tiny B&W female left the pack to try and jump on my lap (only reaching my ankle mind you). I picked her up for a little cuddle then put her back with the pack. But she left again and came back to me. She wouldn't let me leave without her! She hasn't left my side since.

Pip: a Jack Russell which belonged to friends. I haven't had a dog for twenty years or so: the last was a Weimaraner.

We took our dog to a 10-week obedience school when he was a pup. Also in the class was a Jack Russell. On the last night there was a competition for outstanding dog in the class. All the owners had to walk around a big circle with their dogs heeling--off leash--and the dogs had to obey a series of commands. My wife was handling our dog and I was sitting up on the side of a nearby hill watching so as not to distract him. After several minutes of commands the Jack Russell bolted from his owner, ran up the hill and sat down next to me. He looked at me as if to say, "Well, I've had enough of that foolishness."

We haven't had a dog in ages ... but we have a 22-pound cat! He's not fat, he's just enormous! I'll have to post a picture when I get home!
