Just got my old Minolta Dimage Scan Elite II film scanner out. I can get the drivers and software installed but "Setting Up" gets nowhere. I guess it's not just compatible with Windows 7 even when running in compatibility mode. Looking on the web I don't think that they even did Vista drivers for it

I do have an HP printer that has a scanner in it but it is not the best plus when i tried to scan one of the pics that i took with my Rollei, i chose 2000dpi i think (even though i don't know what dpi means, i am assuming it resolution) and the scanner was slower than molasses! So yea ill have to look around for a better scanner.

dpi = dots per inch.
All scanners are fairly slow. If you say a 35mm negative is 1 x 1 1/2 inches, then 2000 dpi gives about 6 megapixels from the whole negative.

I once had a HP flat bed scanner with an attachment for slides and negative. Very poor. Unacceptable. Then I got an Ohnar Slide Copier. A little better but still not acceptable. Then came the Pentax Auto Bellows with Slide Copier. Very good but finicky and slow. So I devised the near compact Ultra High Tech Slide Copier. Almost as good as the bellows and attains super sonic speeds. It sets up in 5 minutes. One can crop with the camera's zoom lens. The Sawyers projector is auto focusing. It is usually used at night in a darkened room. The screen is the remanent of a matte white kitchen counter installation. It is tilted ever so slightly backwards and the camera is slightly off centre to eliminate the hot spot from the projection bulb. These slides were taken with a Canon FTbn on Fujichrome 100 ASA in about 1977. Necessity is, indeed, the mother of invention. Mickey

Mickey, you have been busy.
I do have one of the little copier boxes - certainly very good for putting cine on to video. I haven't tried it for still photos. I have photographed projected slides before but probably not with a digital camera.
Perhaps I should do a controlled experiment comparing all the different methods for time taken and quality of the result.
I must also put the Epson scanner up against that from HP. I do think the Epson probably gives better results.

Dave,
The HP's slide copier could have been bested by a child with a twig drawing pictures in the sand.
