...is one of my favorite digital cameras.
My boss at work has one. He's not a photoenthusiast (that I know of) but he is a smart guy and a cancer survivor. His A590 lives in our lab at work, and is basically the office camera. Having used it a lot, and come to like it, I bought my own (new) for around $150. It became my carry-around camera, displacing the film cameras (especially my Canonet GIII 17) I had used for that previously. Last year, I gave it to my son to take to college, and I have missed it greatly. I had a much better digicam (Canon G11), but the G11 just a little too big and heavy to replace the A590. So I bought a used A590 on ebay, which just arrived in good order, and now I'm pretty happy.
What I like: -full manual controls -full auto controls -everything in between the above -reasonably small, light -8MP, image stabilisation, very good IQ especially at low ISO -CHDK is available to get RAW and more high-end performace out of it -AA batteries. I'm rarely outside of walking distance for repowering the camera. -Optical viewfinder. Not a stellar one, but it is there and it helps.
I'm just an occasional lurker here, but I'm happy and I felt like crowing to guys who would understand.
As far as collector value- probably not that much, though I think the A590IS was the last A series with an optical viewfinder and manual mode. Maybe that counts.
Regards and happy holidays!

Today's "ordinary" is tomorrow's collectible. I prefer an optical viewfinder, but they got so small and awkward to use on manly of recent cameras (mainly compacts) that I'm not surprised that they did away with them.
I haven't used any of the Powershot range.

I like the Canon "A" series. We've had two. They both had optical viewfinders and well as the screen and they both use AA batteries instead of proprietary. Hardly any of today's P&Ss have an optical viewfinder. Try composing on that little screen on a bright, sunny day.

I have a Powershot A75 and Powershot 1100 IS Elph. Great value for these little point 'n shoots.
