This is the Doraville Schoolhouse. It was in use until the late 1940's. It was moved across the river to it's present site about 20 years ago. It was taken apart, the pieces numbered, rebuilt and restored. Some friends of mine actually went to school there. Doug

Doug, super. It would be a bit of a b*gger if you went to school one day and found it wasn't there. Presumably each class covered many age groups.

Talk about a disappearing icon from days gone by. You did it justice and so did the people who restored it. I have seen a few of these out in our western provinces but none were restored as nicely as this one. The public school that I went to had a couple of rooms with two grades double banked into one room. I can't imagine what it would be like to have all 8 grades in one room.

There are still a couple of those standing near here, but they were converted to houses.

Thanks guys! At the time it was rescued, it was being used as a small barn. They moved it from across the river (a distance of ca. 5 miles) to its' present location because that's where the town hall is. It's been set up as a museum complete with desks, blackboards, etc. Doug
