I don't have a favourite, but of the cameras currently around, if I had to pick only one to use, it would be the Canon 7D.

Just to be fair to the others, I do use them occassionaly, one way of exercising them. Excuse me if I sound like talking about my pets, but they are my pets. Cheers Hye

This is an old thread and times have changed in the meantime, at least for me, and the answer would my be a D700.
Hye
They all have distinct personalities just like our pets and just like our pets we love for their differences.

Four plus years ago, I nominated the Fujica ST605. I last used it about three years ago. There have been several favourites since. Currently, have two: Minolta X570, usually fitted with 50mm 1.4 or 50mm macro and a Minolta Maxxum 650si date which I picked up on the bay about two months ago for $20.00, unmarked and looking like new. It just feels right, fitted with a 28-105mm.

Before digital, my two favorites were my Spotmatic F and my Nikon EL2.
Just because of the 1.5 Nokton, I often used a rather-hard-to-get-along-with Voigtlander Prominent.
Then the *istDS changed everything.

My favourite camera is my Voigtlander Vito B. Buying it was actually a mistake. I work shifts and sometimes I am not completely compis mentis when I am at home. I thought I was bidding for a different camera on Ebay but must have mis-clicked somewhere along the line and got the Vito B. It is delightful, snug in my hand, takes clear pictures, simple to use and is in regular use.

peltigera,
In photographic terminology I think what happened to you is called "Serendipity".

We had a Voigtlander Vito (not sure of the exact model) in the early 1960s after the Ilford Sportsman got stolen. I remember it, as you say Peltigera, as handling nicely and giving good results. I do think that the prime lenses of old (almost) always gave decent results and possibly better than most modern zooms.
Barbarian, the *ist DS was my first (true) DSLR.

I don't have all-time favorites. Rather, I have current favorites. And it usually are a number of different cameras. So, currently, my favorites are the Rolleiflex SL 35 E, a Zeiss Ikon SL 706 and a Pentax MX.

Sorry, however the trouble is that if "New Topics" list is set, the original section that the thread was posted in does not show up, and it's all to easy to stray off the theme.
Not only is it in the film section, but it is for "Modern SLRs: This board is for Modern 35mm SLRs that use LEDs or items like Autofocus."
