Just my newest toy, direct from eBay, a 1934-42 Foth Derby II. Bit of wear to the leather on the faceplate but bellows, aperture and shutter are great. Takes 127 film so now I've gotta buy a roll or two and try it out. Maybe with a Kodak Bantam for comparison. Foth Anastigmat 50mm f3.5 Also received 50 rolls of Perutz Primera 100 film, anyone ever heard of or tried it?

Perutz Primera 100 Perutz was an imported film, I think from Germany. Large discount house and store like monkey wards sold it back in the 50-70,s. I have used B&W with some success. Treated just like Plus -X or Tri-X for the 400 speed.

The F-D is quite capable of taking excellent pictures if it's in good condition. My mother gave my father one for Christmas in 1939; his first good quality camera. I now have it and it's still useable.
Perutz was, at one time, considered to be a good quality film and I would think that if still being made, it would be worth a try. It was in competition with films from Agfa, Orwo, Ilford and others.

Curt,
I have the same Foth-Derby. It has obviously been well used but still operates beautifully and is in very good condition.
McKeown's has some interesting notes about its heritage and name.

Thanks for the info guys. The Perutz Primera film is German and expired from 2005 but like all my film, was kept refrigerated and is in my freezer now. I'm going to try a roll in my new Praktica BC1. The Foth Derby II looks to be a great little performer, bellows are like new, even the pressure plate seems unmarked. Just gotta get 2 rolls or so of 127 for comparison sake between the Bantam and Foth. Should be interesting to see the Foth's lens quality as I don't shoot with many English cameras. Thanks again.

I've got one of them too, but mine is a little more beat up. Feels like some used liquid weld instead of grease on the helicals. Should make an interesting comparison with the Bantam.
