Hi All! I just got back from going to the Library, and on the way back home, I decided to pop into one of the thrift stores I often visit. They had this Olympus OM10 with a 28-210 Kiron Macro Zoom for 8.00 USD. The lady at the Register said that a lot of people had looked at it, but because it was broken, no one bought it. The mirror was frozen half way. I know from Mr. Thomosy's Book that these will do that when the batteries die, so when I got home, I cleaned the battery compartment, rubbed it with a couple of fresh batteries (thanks for the visual, Dave ), et Voila! A new camera to join the herd! All I need to do now is give the lens a good cleaning, and I'm all set to go. Life is good ;D Doug

A little knowledge about OMs goes a long way to getting a great find. I think that lens will not be too shabby either, Kiron had a good reputation. Enjoy it.

I'm back! Well, the lens is toast There is a lot of fungus visible on the elements, and someone had already had the lens apart (there are some little parts missing), so I'm not going to bother with it. It's a VERY heavy lens. That's OK though, the camera body itself is mint, and I don't believe Olympus OM lenses are too expensive. Life is still good Doug

Where would we be without fungus, eh? (Mushroom soup would never taste the same. ;D)
By the way has anyone ever had problems with fungus on the mirror? Presumably it would take fairly adverse storage conditions for it to happen.
Nice find though. Our "thrift" shops still think that such a camera and lens would be worth about £50.

Careful the fungus isn't in the body, too.

Wayne, The body really is in mint condition. I suspect that the original lens was probably sold separately, the body wouldn't sell without a lens and so they put one on that had been laying around. I've already got some bids in for a couple of OEM lenses. BTW, don't you just hate it that folks don't want to sell their cameras and lenses together anymore? It seems you can make more on the lens by itself. Doug

This is the camera I (ok, Bestbeloved) bought a week or two ago. Thanks for the warning that a stuck mirror is really a flat battery. Not happened yet but bound to at some point.
I am finding it a really nice camera to use.

I remembered about the battery, because the book stated that it (the mirror) would stop halfway. That stuck in my mind. Doug
