I've been trying to find some photos of my own first car, an old Ford 2 door sedan. It came into my Dad's garage on a wrecker's hook, and I rebuilt it, painted it, and drove that old car for several years. It had a basically stock 239 CID flathead V8, with a 3 speed overdrive transmission. I found an original rear speaker (!!) to add to the AM radio. That was high-class audio in those days! I was sixteen. I drove that car through my first two years of college. Sadly, the closest I was able to come to a photo of the car was this one of an AMT plastic model that I spent ------------------too many hours building into an exact replica of my car, right down to the exact shade of paint. This was taken with my Mamiya 1000 DTL. It had to be the "normal" lens with a 2X converter. I had no other "macro" gear at the time. High Speed Ektachrome slide film, home processed, then duplicated (over 40 years later) via an optical slide duplicator on my Pentax P3n. Cropped in Gimp, and slightly sharpened. Roy

Me sitting behind the wheel of my first car--a 1936 Ford two-door sedan. I was about 13 (1958) when I got it for $90. First mistake was replacing the sedan body with a coupe body. Never drove it legally on the road. Ended up selling it four years later to help pay for a 1956 Ford.

Here we go My first car was a Mercedes Benz 220D from 1971, bought in 1985. The car dealer was a gangster and that car has been in horrible condition. Water in the car when it was raining ( or ice in winter ) and just one chance to start the engine ... especially in winter. That has been a car ... hahaha ... but I loved it. Here one of the very few pictures preserved ( just copied with a cheap digital camera from a print a while ago ). Before you wonder ... it has been some kind of fashion at that time, taking pictures of cars with the current girlfriend posing ... or one of them. Well ... I was still young at that time But I have good memories of this picture ... and ... not only of the car ;D

Mine was a 1964 Plymouth Valiant convertible. I'm sure I have pictures somewhere...I jusy haven't gone deep enough in the box. I did find a you-tube video of one, almost identical.
Mine had a black convertible roof and a black boot...and my wheels were black, with chrome "baby moon" hubcaps!

My first car was a 1954 Ford Consul. A nasty machine. It had an Austin 4 cylinder engine with American style 3 speed gearshift on the steering column. It was still wearing English war time colours. Drab olive and drab cream including the bumpers. It came complete with dashpot and Lucas electrics. It was sold in less than a year.

I bought a new Ford Escort in 1990, the European Ford`s had not been that spectacular like yours, but it was a solid car. Two years later my ex-wife turned my Ford into a total loss by ignoring another car at the crossroad. A week later I bought a off-road car with ramming protection ( and I felt more secure ).
Bernd,
A beautiful 220 MB ! And a lovely lady too. As the license plate shows, you grew up in NRW ?

My first car that I actually drove on the road was a 58 plymouth wagon. I had it 2 months,(one motor and one tranny later) My mom got tired of that and took me down and got me a 64 Mustang off the showroom floor. It was the second one in town. the first was a convertable ,same color that the dealers daughter got. Wish I had that one back. KennB

Yes. I actually lived there until moving to Japan. ME stands for "Kreis Mettmann". I lived in Hilden and even it is actually closer to Duesseldorf than to Mettmann, it belongs to the "Kreis Mettmann". Mettmann is an really boring small town of no importance ... or wait, it's actually very famous, but just for one thing. The first prehistoric human, the "Neandertaler" has been found there. Mettmann lies in a valley, called "Neandertal". A very lovely lady indeed. Unfortunately, I have been to young and wild for being able to appreciate this at that time, as I should have had.

Hi there! My first car was an 1960 Oldsmobile 98. It was a big old boat! No photos of it Berndt, I spent from 1977 till 1993 living in and around Wuppertal. I thought the Kennzeichen looked familiar. Doug

Berndt, I was stationed in Wiesbaden with the US Air Force as a Photo Interpreter from 74-76. I met a girl from Wuppertal who talked me into staying after my discharge. We eventually parted, but I remained there anyway. I liked the public transit systems, and enjoyed the lifestyle, but all my friends thought I was Dutch because of my accent Got tired and homesick, and came home in 1993. Doug

I can imagine that. Wuppertal is a special area. This narrow long valley, often raining. I always felt some kind of claustrophobia, being there ... much more than in Tokyo with all the many people ... hahaha ...
