I'm so happy with this thread! After reading your posts, life in the 'de Groot' family is a lot easier for me... Hans de Groot, NL P.S. A lot of Zeiss Ikon equipment is hidden in those posts, if you want to share your camera/lens data with me I will more than happy. In due course body and lens numbers available will be published for the good of all of us.

Good gracious - after reading the number of cameras owned by members here, I feel embarrassed to admit I only have 9 up to now which are all working and all Nikon manual focus bodies. However, I still have a couple of Pentax's left from years back when I first started into photography, but they're not in full working order unfortunately.
Over the years, I have accummulated more lenses (Nikon) than cameras - probably far more than I actually need.

When you hit the 70s, rushing will be out of the question, Mickey, its one step at a time, so it will probably be several lifetime before I can even hit the hundreds. Regards
Hye

I think I have about 70. All of them work except for a couple of Soviet RFs that are duplicates of working examples. At one time I had more than 100. I haven't actively collected in about four years but I seem to acquire three or four more every year from people who have heard I collect and send gear to me rather than throwing it away. Big question is what will happen to them when I depart as I don't think anyone in my family will have the ambition to keep them or to try to find homes for them. I probably should send them all to MIK but the freight might be a little costly. W.

Counting all film and digital ones, about 50, I guess ... and many lenses, mostly Canon FLs. Now, that I basically have at least one camera of each type, I just go for some "exotic ones". Most cameras are in working condition and have seen a roll of film as well. Really using them is an important part of the game for me. Latest test ... my Bencini Koroll 24s: www.flickr.com/photos/30634008@N08/sets/72157630185257520/

Regards Hye Hye, I am teetering on the edge of my eighties. I know how very true your words are. But stick to your collecting. It seems to gather speed without any effort. I started collecting only 14 or 15 years ago when I retired on a limited budget. I have no expensive Leicas or Rollies or Nikons. But what joy and satisfaction those old folding Kodaks and the Argus and my Canons as well as the crazy, unusual, inexpensive cameras can provide. The research to find out about an old camera is also most enjoyable. Mickey

Mickey,
So true, My father died when I was 12 and left his kids a couple of cameras. As the youngest son, and no one else interested, the Agfa Silette and Zeiss Ikon Contessa started my collection some 15 years ago. And almost automagically it grew to 120+ cameras, Most from fleamarkets, pawn shops etc. IMHO the search is one of the most rewarding aspects of the hobby. Shooting with the old gear (sometimes after some surgery:-) is also great. (and the looks one gets fiddling around with such an antiquated piece of metal...) Hans (still 2-3 working years to go)

Hi! Once the word got out that I collect old cameras, I started getting them from all over the place. Some I end up buying, some are just given to me. I'm cheap, so I don't pay very much. Hans, I spent many enjoyable days in the Netherlands, mostly in Venlo, and used to drive a DAF ( even though it sounded like a sewing machine on wheels ) Doug

DAF were small cars with the most wonderful system of "pulleys and rubber bands" as an automatic gearing system. At the other end of the scale they made, and still make, big trucks. There certainly was a link-up with the Leyland group and some DAF trucks were made in Britain.

I had a DAF 66 once, a bit outdated exterior but 1500 cc and the 'variomatic' system inside. In Spain one day all kids (well, 20-22...) went out for a 'streetrace?' Everybody laughed at me, before! After I won all races I was treated with great respect! I won because of the lack of gear shifting delay... Then I offered them a quit or double chance: running backwards, who was the fastest. They agreed, the stupids, they didn't the DAF went as fast forwards as backwards!! I had a big laugh, they went home in a bad mood... In the end we spent the earned money (oops...) in the bar making everybody happy.
