Hi All! The Yashica that I bought came in the mail today. I was told by the seller that the shutter didn't work, the advance wouldn't budge, and that it was basically dead in the water. I did some research and found that these had an electronic shutter. It calls for a 544 battery, I have some 4LR44s that look like they would fit, and both types are 6v. I popped one in and there ya go. Works fine ;D All it needs is a little cleaning, some TLC, and a lens (I have a couple). The self timer is hanging ten, but I never use those, so I don't care. The seller also included a Yashica winder as a freebie! Did I mention that the whole business only cost me 99 cents and 8 USD shipping? Doug

It seems as a good purchase. Don't know much about Yashica, so I may have to get one.

Nothing wrong with Yashica reflexes, apart from a reliance on electronics in some models, the lenses were always first class. Never a total success in the UK due to the importer Photax, who were OK, but a small company who had limited resources to back up the maker. Quite why they never imported direct until too late is a mystery. They also suffered with Grey Imports, dodgy direct importing by shops who had no right to retail them from the makers. They sold them cheap, but offered no service or back up, sending the goods back to Photax, who had never imported them in the first case. A sure way to get very unhappy customers.
Stephen.

Hi! Well I cleaned up the camera and winder, put some batteries in the winder, put a lens on, and there you have it! Everything works but the frame counter I'll post some photos soon. Not too bad for 1 USD, eh? Doug

Just a suggestion, it might be wrong, but the little tabs that zero the counters when the back opens can get stuck in the goo from the light traps if they are foam. The tab stays pushed in so the counter will not zero, try cleaning around the tab, if it's there, Yashica may have done it some other way, of course, but most I have seen have a tab in the light trap groove to sense whether the back is open.
The lenses on these are very good indeed, expect very sharp and good contrast. Stephen.

Bob, What looked like corrosion wasn't, it was just some goo that got on the camera. I cleaned it with simple green.
Stephen, Thanks for the tip, the seals could use replacing, so I'll try and clean around the tab as well. I really hadn't even thought of that.

You can tell that whoever owned this really used it. And it certainly looks better cleaned up. It looks like it's in its prime again.
