On value, in trade terms, such finishes do not increase the value, it limits the customer base to a certain extent, but without new production, older cameras are going to need attention, so replacement must be considered an option, and a neat finish will not harm the value. The biggest area recently of re-finishing was the large amount of Russian and Leica clones in every conceivable finish possible, they sold well in the 1990's, but have lost value and interest now. They also did fakes as well, now of even lower value.
