Hi All! I was playing around out at my desk, and thought I'd try to capture my favorite plant. I've discovered that this is a very thirsty little guy and needs watering almost daily! It's called a Cyclamen, and was slated to be disposed of at the Florist shop. I used the macro on my FinePix to take this, f3.5, on a tripod. I got him for 50 cents and brought it back Doug

If you are new to Cyclamen, then do not water to much, it can rot the tuber. They grow in autumn and winter, tending to die back in the dry summers, then flower in autumn. The watering should be regular, but no soaking, and little in the summer period. The plant pot can be stood in a gravel tray, which can have the water added to it allow it to draw up just enough water. Any evaporation of the water keeps the air moist around the plants.
A sure sign of over watering is the tips and edges of the leaves turning yellow, but this also occurs a bit as summer approaches, and the plant goes a bit dormant due to the long light summer days and heat.
Nice shot as well! Stephen.
