One of the guys in work has been bitten by the collecting bug big style. He has taken the step from digital to classics, 35mm slrs mainly. We had a bit of a show and tell the other day and he was fascinated by my Agfa Isolette 1, now he wants to move into medium format and asked for a few recommendations. He wants something fairly compact, not too expensive but capable of giving decent results. I suggested thinking about Agfas or Zeiss Ikontas but just wondered what everyone else thought would be a good entry into medium format? Thanks Matty

TLRs would probably be the best recommendation, but if he wants compact, it is a folder.
I am a bottom feeder - any folder in good condition, even with a triplet lens, will do. Nettars are nice and bellows age better than the Isolettes (Sandeha Lynch makes good bellows for Isolettes, BTW).
I also like Perkeos. Just to name a few possibilities. No shortage of nice folders.

I'm finding cheap and decent usable Nettar and Perkeo cameras in charity shops and yard sales regularly. The Nettar I use is in just about perfect condition and cost me £5 ( UK Pound ) I'm very pleased with it. I also have a Mamiya C3 Pro' which I rarely use because it is so big and slow to use, I love it, but once the camera, lenses and accessories and sturdy tripod are in a backpack my wife just refuses to carry it. Go for a Nettar or similar, it fits in a coat pocket and takes great pictures.
