Made a quick and dirty test of the Tamron 75-250 zoom with the dedicated Tamron 2x purchased from a charity shop Both shots from Canon 20d First from a Komine 35-70 zoom @ 35mm for reference. With the 1.6 crop factor of the 20D, 35mm equals @ 56mm, a pretty good approximation of a "normal" lens on 35mm: Tamron 75-250 @ 250 + Tamron 2x for a 35mm equivalent 800mm focal length, No cropping involved. I've got the 85-210 / 4.5 BBAR lens, I think it's the older version of yours ? and love it. It's sharp and has great bokeh. I think this is a lens you'll end up using a lot. It's perfect for this kind of shot, this was taken hand held, without the X2 converter and straight into the sun.

I just noticed a typo in my original post. The lens used is the 75-250, rather than 75-210 as originally posted. Corrected in an edit just now. I also have and enjoy the 80-210.
That is a very nice shot Lloyd!
