Mickey, there have been a few threads where I have thought just the same about what PeterW have said on the subject.
One big difference between cars and computers is in the reliability stakes: cars are the more reliable of the two nowadays. Over the years cars have got significantly better in reliability terms, whereas computers seem to have got worse, hanging, or whatever, far more often than they used to*. One only has to look at the big "turn on" of one of the Windows operating systems a few years back to support that theory.
* I note my wife's iPad has never hung once in two years, while the notebook, laptop and desktop have all hung on several occasions. The notebook is currently out of action with the AVG (an anti-virus programme) hiccough. This is well known as a problem and AVG have made a recovery "disk" (downloadable in a few ways). Unfortunately it does not seem to actually work. I can see myself having to take the hard drive out and piggy-backing it to the desktop to sort it out. I should add that my car has never failed to start, stop nor turn the corner when requested to so do.
