K is one of those things I have looked up before, but I couldn't remember what the answer is, so I looked it up again, and here is the anser: It stands for Key. The key plate holds the detail in the image, and this was usually done with black ink. (So now I know.)

In CYMK printing you have cyan, yellow, magenta and black plates. The black plate is printed first, this is called the KEY plate and the others are lined up with it hence K. It cant be called B because B is used for blue in RGB printing, K is also the last letter of black and some people say that's why its K. So take your pick of the explanations.
Black is not needed in RGB printing because a combination of the colours make black.

Purple text is virtually unreadable on my computer. White on gray works best. In printing we use CMYK color which stands for "Cyan, Magenta,Yelloe, Black." Gives a lot more control than RGB. Wayne, I, too, have that purple problem. Mickey

All text is unreadable at times on my (older) monitor. For whatever reason it doesn't come on unless switched on and off several times. I do have some magical electrical spray (contact cleaner) that often sorts things out. Maybe I'll get round to using it sometime.
It's so much easier working with the extended desktop of two monitors.
Sometimes, if text is difficult to read, it can be highlighted to make it show up better. The (exact?) complementary colour is sometimes used when highlighted and that often makes the text easy to read, but it is a bit of a nuisance having to do it. This system on here puts blue text on white paper, seemingly whatever the original colour.
