I have now a small collection of Konica SLRs from the 70's and 80's. I have one very nice silver FT-1 that works correctly. I have just bought a Black Konica FT-1 plus lens that was described as not working. I tried it with four new AA batteries that it takes (rare apparently) and confirmed that it does not work- yet.
On inspecting the removable battery compartment (grip) I find that there is a tiny wire that runs across the top of the grip from the last +ve terminal to the battery/camera connector and that it is slightly corroded and broken.
So I removed the battery grip from the Silver FT-1 and noticed that it holds four AAA batteries but the terminals to the camera body are the same. Fitted the good grip onto the black camera.
Now, the new black FT-1 came into life, but the shutter fires then I have to wait 8 seconds before it will fire again. This is the same on single or continuous shot. Also the metering shows no sign of life. (The delayed action does not work).
I am prepared to mend the battery holder for the black camera, but not dismantle the body. Any ideas as to the delay in shutter actuation?
Could it be that there is a capacitor in the power circuit that needs to charge up?
Edit.
I have now temporarily joined the broken wire in the grip, cleaned the slight corrosion off everything in there and am getting voltage at the terminals with new alkaline batteries, but the camera does not power up with that grip fitted, so I think I will just keep it for show. The 50mm f 1.8 Hexanon lens is in good condition and well worth the £8.29p I paid.
