I am re-skinning old Olympus Trips. All work even the green one with the missing rewind knob (stored inside). I'm supposed to be selling them but they look nice displayed! Attachment DeletedSnakeskin from an M&S washbag! Attachment DeletedGreen leather from a charity shop handbag. The body is padded and feels luxurious, I left the backing foam on. The strap is made from the strap off the bag. I forgot to put the rewind knob on when I replaced the top plate after repairing the camera, it was in a bad state. Attachment Deleted

Wood veneer. I've seen some cams like this go for hundreds. I need some great patterned woods. Attachment DeletedBrown leather from a handbag. My first trip re-covering. Attachment DeletedA funky pattern using 'leather' from a purse. It has been described as an Aztec camera! Attachment DeletedThanks for looking!!

philbirch: Very nice re-skinned Oly's!! Do you make some sort of template before cutting the leather? I have an old Contax 139 and som real leather, would have been fun reskinning, but have never done this before.

Just get the original 'leather' off in one piece and draw round it. The problems start when the leather can't be drawn round because it has to come off in bits. I suspect the Contax could be like this. The luxury padded grip will have turned to crap by now. Most end up re-covered in some way. I suggest leather that is less than 1mm thick otherwise you will see the edges. I feather my cuts sometimes to reduce this but it is variable in thickness. I use punches for the flash sync socket and self timers. I suspect the round cuts needed for your Contax could be done with small scissors. I am going to do a Pentax ME shortly I will take photos and post it as a Tut later. Check back meanwhile here is a 139 and a pre cut kit.
