I have Minolta Rokkor 1000mm f6.3 reflex lens that I picked up at an auction. I'm looking for folks who can give me some information about this lens.
I understand it was sold in the late 1960's to early 1970's.
I'd like to know the original list price. I'm looking for a decal to replace the missing labels on the color filter selector knob. I'm interested in the specs for the filters. I understand that the clear UV filter is part of the focal system but I'd like to replace one or more filters with others designed for astronomy, such as a skyglow broadband, ultrablock narrowband, oxygen III or Hydrogen-beta nebula filter. I don't know what size I would need, whether the threads are compatible or if they are optically compatible.
On the other hand I may just give up trying to use it as a telescope and sell it.
Thanks for any info you have. Jeff

you are asking the same question in at least two other forums. dpreview gives the best answer. It wasn't hard to find the same information thru google rather than spam all the boards.

Hi Phil, I have already found all the information available through Google, dpreview and a couple of other boards, and there isn't much. Sorry you think I'm "spamming all the boards" but I'm really just trying to find a human being who has some first hand knowledge. If that isn't what these boards are for then maybe I just don't understand the internet.

Sorry Jeff fair do's. It's an unusual piece of kit and definitely a specialist item. Not even mentioned in the 'Rokkor Files', your first stop for anything Minolta.

No worries. I checked out the Rokkor files too. It was strange that it showed up in a government auction.
I bought an adapter with glass for my A-77 but it was unusable. Another without glass is on its way from Hong Kong via row boat, I think. It's supposed to take 17-31 days.

hmmm, I'm not sure the glassless adapter will work. The lens in it is there to keep infinity. Is there any way perhaps of changing the mount - i.e take off the SR bayonet and replace it with something else?

Another without glass is on its way from Hong Kong via row boat, I think. It's supposed to take 17-31 days. I don't know the lens, but I have had a few things come from various parts of China. Some have been much quicker than expected. One (a flash diffuser) was well overtime. I thought is was 99p wasted, then suddenly it arrived. What is remarkable is that it would cost more than 99p to post it even a short distance in Britain. I don't know enough about the mount to film plane distances for various makes. There must be some out there that have a bigger distance than others and so would mount giving infinity with an adapter without using extra glass. Older lenses were often the length of their focal length (or thereabouts). The Leica 90/f4 Elmar, for instance, could be split and so would be a doddle to adapt for any camera and retain full focussing. Well, okay it would be costly to make a suitable adapter, unless just using bellows.

The flange focal distance for SR mount Rokkors is 43.72mm and Sony/Minolta-A is 44.6mm. Meaning the Rokkor if mounted flush with the A-mount will not get infinity. The thickness of an adapter will only make this problem worse. So a corrective lens is necessary to achieve infinity. I have a couple M42 to Nikon and Minolta SR to Nikon. they are ok if you stop down a couple but alas with a Mirror lens you can't.
If the adapter is unsuitable I can make use of it.

The lens is capable of focusing past infinity so for the nominal price of the adapter it should be a cheap experiment. Hopefully it will work out.
