I have the 1979 Pop Photo test of this lens published with the review of the MX and wonder if anyone has the same for any other pancake or 40mm for comparison. I will have to follow up with testing on mt K20D which will likely be the bottleneck as 14.6MP is just not enough from previous lenses I have tested before. Of course since these are used, it cannot be determined if it is up to factory spec.

The GN Nikkor is a great lens. It came out in 1968. The lens was a fairly simple Tessar. It cost about $100 when it came out. I've had two. One had been modified for use on the newer auto indexing Nikons. Another one of my "I wish I hadn't sold it" stories. The only awkward thing about the GN is you have to turn the focus ring the opposite direction you do on othes Nikkor lenses. That means it focuses the same way as generis cameras (like Minolta:) )

The "GN" pancake is also on my "bucket list" unless of course if I were to win the lottery I never enter and able to buy the updated "P" version!

The Rokkor 45mm which I use on the 4/3rds Leica Digilux 3 as a tiny fast 90mm equivalent is excellent, but I content myself with a Pentax 50mm f2 just bought with a Pentax K1000 to use on the K10d.
The Leica screw Industars I actually like to use on the Panasonic G1 and Leica M8 because I just love that vintage feel.

It's funny how the "feel" comes back in odd ways. I recently acquired two "E" Series Nikons; one 50mm/f1.8 and the other 28mm/f2.8. I'm constantly amazed at how good they feel compared to new newer AF glass. However, I get a reality check when I use my 50mm/f1.4 Nikkor and am reminded that back in 1979, these were considered "2nd Class"!
I do think that these lenses are about as close as I'm going to get to having a "pancake" though.

Stan, the Nikkor lenses are superb, congratulations with your new jewels! Build quality of those old lenses are top quality, the Nikkor Series-E, both pancake and a high quality resolving lens.

I like a cheese and ham pancake. And Hanz said: Phil, try a cheese and paprika pancake. Tch. Tch. Tch. For pancakes or waffles there is only one suitable condiment - MAPLE SYRUP. Gallons of MAPLE SYRUP. Mickey

There is a "Rikenon XR 45mm f.2.8". Is this a Rikenon creation, or is it a Pentax or others makers copy? Mickey: Your teeth would hurt eating a Nikkor Series-E 50mm pancake with maple syrup!
