This has got to be an all time low in leica cameras and one can only wonder how desperate they were at Leitz back in 1991 to sell this with a leica badge on it. I can't remember how it came in my possesion (must have slipped in through the back door) But i do know that one day when i tried to sell it ( no reserve offer) nobody wanted it at ANY price. So now this little orphan will stay in my collection somewhere in the back of a shelve as a reminder that even the greatest are capable of producing real crap ( remember the nikkorex??? have you seen what hasselblad made recently?)

Never looked closely at the model, I knew of it in passing, and I think I will pass it by again!....presumably a Minolta production for Leica...... Stephen

Apparently far worse than being built by Minolta, it was according to Leica forum, a Panasonic, assembled in China under contract.

Without the Leica badge it would sit for months in a charity shop bargain bin priced at 50pence...

Maybe these are the beginning of a new collection. One of crummy cheap cameras made by prestige companies. Like finding a diesel hatchback made by Bentley. Btw, I have a nice Leica ZX2, or Z2X or whatever, that I'll let go cheap.

I think it is a collectible camera. As collectors, we should not condemn some cameras as less worth for some reason. I am certain the camera takes good pictures. Remember it is intended for casual use, printing 4x6 to photo album. It is no M-serie camera and should not be compared so. I agree with "genazzano", it makes a nice beginning of a collection. What is a valid Leica anyway, most R-serie are made in Portugal.

OK, I take back the crummy part. I bought the Leica Z2X 18 years ago or so and it has never failed to produce excellent photos. I gotta admit that the C2 Zoom thing looks like a serious miscalculation at Leica.

I gotta admit that the C2 Zoom thing looks like a serious miscalculation at Leica. no, it IS crummy. Crummy doesn't mean not collectible and it probably takes lovely well exposed sharp images. But look at it, probably created by a retired Kodak Brownie designer.
