Are there any? Not thinking about craiglist or similar sites.
After reading on ebay forum I have discovered a real dismay of several aspects of selling: * high fees * unreliable buyers * ebay not allowing negative feedback for buyers * ebay not taking action against bad buyers * buyers get refunds when not happy * sellers fees collected even when buyer not pay * manipulating the feedback score * ebay hold back your money * and more...
Lately ebay also has acted as a government representative, collecting custom fees if the amount is greater than e.g. $35 for my country. God knows if they ever pay this money to the country the claim is referring to, or if they...
So, it is about time getting other means of selling and buying. I have no answer, as ebay clearly is a very large organization which also includes paypal. Someone has to throw the first stone as to speak, later it could become a great site. For those of you having own website with some traffic could install a wordpress module acting as a auction site. As for cameras/lenses it is more safe dealing with other collectors than sellers not having a slightest clue of what they sell. Of course, this can go both ways, many bargains can be had from unaware sellers. Or are collectors more thrifty (or what you call it) leaving prices high. Or, I could of course be totally wrong in this matter.

I use Gumtree once in a while, free with no interfering rules. I don't know if they have it in your country. Just buy and sell - no auctions.

Ebay earning a lot of money on gumtree due to advertising. A lot of advertising on ebay is also scam.
1) Fix your pc ad (scam: you dowvload software not knowing what it does, may be collect info fo other sites selling it) 2) viabuy fill up mastercard ad (scam: they take 100 euros when deposited)

Scams can be avoided if you are careful. I for one would never buy a property on gumtree nor pay electronically - I only pay cash on the nail and only when the item has been examined.
All scams can be avoided with a little common sense. I have always gone to the home of the seller and have had no problems. Gumtree is no different than any other classified ad forum such as Loot or indeed your local newspaper.

Yesterday after about 12 years I quit eBay.
I do not trust any of the other nearly or remotely similar organizations.
Scoundrels abound on the internet.
From now on it is - see it - touch it - handle it - examine it and then, perhaps, buy it.

I'm done with selling on ebay. Ebay takes a cut and Paypal (owned by ebay) takes a cut and the cuts keep getting larger.

They are sucking the gum out of the trees, and shewing for a long time, hence gumtrees It must be special for UK? Joking aside, I might put an ad in the local paper, if someone will donate their old (worthless) camera, to me. It has to be a lot of old cameras in someones attic or basement, or storehoure etc. Mickey: Do you get free samples from the goodies department?

I used to work next door to the Vimto factory in Manchester in the 70's, the delicious smell of my favourite drink wafting through the air. Then in the summer of '76 it became sickly and you went home smelling of it and feeling sticky.

Still, a fool and his money... I could not agree more! But, eBay is no small shop on the corner.. ..one could expect more from eBay than all this junk advertisment. It is like buying doog food, you think it is high quality recommended by veterinarians, if fact it is produced from garbage leftover production by multinational companies which only purpose is money (e.g. Colgate Palmolive). Later the dog get sick because of the dog food, and veterinarians gets the pay check. The world are fooled again, or how you say this in english. This got somewhat off topic, and politics not allowed here.
