Having big porky fingers I do prefer using DSLR, having a proper viewfinder and little shutter lag are extra benefits. Size is a problem though, and you can guarantee you have the wrong lens on for the quick shot you want to take. So I also use a bridge Fuji S2980 which I chose specifically for the EVF, sunny days are no problem and I've got a reasonable zoom ready to use. The other thing to try is have a big enough vehicle to carry all the bits you want to have to hand, my Fiat Doblo's boot(trunk)has the dog's travel crate in it and enough space for camera bags and luggage as well, well it is basically a minivan with seats in it. The only trouble I have with it is that BMW and Audi drivers don't like being overtaken by me, for some reason the sight of a red van catching up with them in the rear view mirror makes them speed up. Hi matty, thanks for your reply, I too have large hands and a DSLR fits nicely, but these days I have a bad shoulder and carrying a case full of gear is becoming not an option for long days out. Last weekend I took my A6000 and a Sigma 28-200 (Nikon AF fit) plus the kit lens, this covered me for most. We went to Southport airshow, and near the front the 200 was plenty long enough with a good wide end for the display shots, my mate who was saddled with a 400mm on his Sony DSLR missed half the shots I got. The EVF was excellent and no delay on the shutter - but I used the excellent continuous shooting mode and found it was way better than my DSLRs. My only problem that day was the weather, terribly overcast and dull but I shot 1535 photos that day, here are a few of the good ones: Catalina PBY Red Arrows A Huey

Years and years ago my uncle used to belong to the Southport Aero Club (or whatever it was called). I recall him piloting a De Havilland Moth. They used to take off and land on the beach. I don't think I've ever been to the Southport Airshow, not unless I went in the 1950s when I was young and it was much less of an affair. I have made it to Liverpool (I wonder where those photos have gone) and to the model aero show at Woodvale. One says models, but a 20+ foot wingspan Halifax bomber is really quite impressive.
p.s. on the subject of flight, the Canada Geese have been going over this morning in their droves. Noisy beggars, hopefully on their way back to Mickey soon.

They had models taking off and landing on the beach but we were stuck in traffic so we missed most of them. They had two Lancasters, the Brit and the Canadian. That was impressive.
My dad won prizes for his model planes in the 50's I have a photo somewhere of me sat next to a trophy he won, a solid silver thing, the size of the FA cup!

Pretty good shots considering the weather. I would have loved to see the 2 Lancs together but haven't had chance, maybe when they get Just Jane flying again there will be a chance to see 3 together. I've missed the Red Arrows this year, they usually come to RAF Valley for training about March/April time but I didn't see them this year. They were up for the Valley families day at the end of July but I was laid up with a vomiting bug so missed them then, even though we have a good view of Valley out of our bedroom window. To bad work gets in the way of plane spotting, I haven't had a chance to sit at the end of the runway for a while and there seems to have been a lot of activity recently (exercises I presume.) Glimpsed what appeared to be a MIL helicopter a couple of weeks ago when I was on my way into work.

Could be preparing for the strikes on ISIS. here are the two Lancasters, a little oof at the long end, very difficult weather and light conditions
